Summary

Since being founded in June 2000 by Andrew Black and Edward Wray, Betfair hasn’t looked back. It is the largest online betting company in the UK and is the world’s largest betting exchange with over 5 million customers. After its merger with another massive British brand, Paddy Power, in 2016, this is considered the biggest, best and most reliable in the industry offering casino games, sportsbook, poker, bingo, lotto and more.

Overview of Our Experiences

You can well imagine that playing on such a huge operator means that lots of playing options are available, and that is true here. Betfair Check: Scam or Not?

Of course, it isn’t, it’s the world’s biggest betting exchange. In this review, you will see that Betfair is the biggest and best for a reason, and is definitely not part of a Betfair scam. To begin with, this is a company that holds a lot more licenses than most. It is licensed in Malta by the Malta Gaming Authority and has a license from the UK Gambling Commission. As well as this, it is regulated by the Danish Gambling Authority, Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli and jurisdictions within Spain, Bulgaria and Romania. As well as this, it promotes gambleaware.co.uk, has been awarded GamCare Certification, as well as linking itself to a gambling therapy website.

On top of this, the banking methods available in the casino are all tried and tested. This is a PayPal casino and these are widely regarded as a sign of trustworthiness. Then there’s the additional bonus that it is powered by Playtech software which also shows that this is a casino that is trustworthy and reliable. Furthermore, as it has merged with another huge and trustworthy gambling establishment, Paddy Power, this is clearly one of the biggest and best companies around. This is a competitive and reliable casino.

Having merged with Paddy Power, this is one area that you can well imagine Betfair will excel, and it most certainly does. It is one of the most popular bookmakers on the planet. Its sportsbook is powered by OpenBet, which means for a smooth and seamless sports betting experience.

Betfair’s poker is operated by The Sporting Exchange Ltd. and is part of the iPoker Network. It has a very good reputation and solid player base as a result of its decent software and great promotions. It offers a wide variety of tournaments with buy-ins from just a few pounds to hundreds for the high rollers out there. It runs tournaments every day with some prize pools reaching £200,000. Betfair Casino Bonus: Check Out the Offer

The welcome bonus for Betfair is competitive with most other casinos I have reviewed. At present, the Betfair Casino bonus is a 100% matching bonus for up to £100 which can be used on all the operator’s games. However, be warned, this bonus comes with a pretty hefty 45-times wagering requirement which has to be fulfilled in 7 days. As stated, you can use it on all games although they have different weightings in regards to wagering requirements, with slots being 100%, roulette and blackjack weighting 50% and other games ranging from 0% to 50%. This offer is not available to players who deposit through eWallets such as Moneybookers/Skrill or Neteller.

Deposit Bonus: 100% up to £100
Bonus Condition: 45 times wagering requirement in 7 days
Validity: eWallet deposits are exempt from this offer
Other promotions: 200% up to £400 on slots with 100 free spins

There is an additional Betfair Casino bonus which is a 200% up to £400 on slots with 100 free spins. This is obviously aimed at the slot players out there. This comes with a slightly more generous 30-times wagering requirement in 10 days. The free spins are released over 10 days – 10 each day. Obviously, this is only playable on slots so no other games are available to play your bonus. Compared to other casino bonuses, this is pretty novel. You can choose what bonus suits you best depending on what games you prefer to play. The terms aren’t as generous as some, but the offer is pretty great with all those free spins thrown in. To be eligible for the welcome bonuses though, you cannot deposit by eWallet methods and certain countries have different wagering requirements so be sure to check them out.

Deposits and Payouts at the Casino

This is a casino that offers lots of options when it comes to depositing and withdrawing money. If you want to deposit then you can use PayPal, InstaDebit, Neteller, Ukash, Skrill and Bank Transfer. As you can see, this is a PayPal casino which means that you can rely on your transactions being safe, secure and protected. The casino has a minimum deposit of just £5. However, some of the banking methods have a minimum deposit of £10 so make sure you check this out. The maximum deposit ranges from £150 to £5,000 depending on your customer status. You can generally talk to customer service and make your own deposit limits. When it comes to withdrawing you have those same options. There is no minimum or maximum withdrawal amount stated directly by the casino. However, withdrawals may be subject to security clearance. Withdrawals are generally pretty quick. However, the length of time it takes all depends on the method used. Bank cards can take in the region of 2 days, whereas bank transfers take 1 day and eWallets generally take in the region of 12 hours, which is pretty quick.

Security and Regulation

Betfair holds licenses by Malta Gaming Authority and the British Gambling Commission. These licenses make sure that the company is allowed to trade in most countries. However, as well as this it is licensed in Denmark, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain and Romania. This means it is legal to play in most countries. The casino is pretty much accepted in most countries, but there are a few big countries that are currently restricted, such as Canada, France, Turkey and Portugal to name a few. Most European countries are catered for, however.

On top of this; it is fully certified by eCOGRA, which means all the games and RNG is constantly monitored and regulated to ensure that they are totally and 100% fair at all times. This means you can be sure that the game you are playing is no scam game as it has passed rigorous third-party testing. On top of this, it has been independently audited by the Technical Systems Testing (TST) – which is an internationally recognised Accredited Testing Facility to make sure that every area of the site is safe and secure. To add to this it has chosen a sophisticated 128-bit SSL encryption to look after your financial and personal data. This shows that Betfair has taken all steps necessary to ensure that it is safe, secure and fair.

It also dedicated to responsible gambling and has trust logos of Gamcare and Gambling Therapy. As well as this Betfair provides a gambling diary to help you calculate the time and money spent on a weekly basis. It provides a budget calculator so you can work out exactly how much money you have to play with. There is a loss limit facility that allows you to set limits to your gambling spend. It also recommends downloadable software to stop children playing on an adult account. As well as this it offers the standard Reality Check, Time Out and Self-Exclusion tools.

Customer Support

The customer support is great and is available in many different languages to cater for its multi-national appeal. There a live chat available that is available 24 hours a day and is generally answered in under 30 seconds, while there is also a contact sheet on the site that is quick and easy to use. Queries made in this manner are normally answered in depth and thoughtfully in under 4 hours, so you shouldn’t be left waiting around for days.

However, if you prefer to talk to someone then there’s a contact number you can use. It isn’t open 24 hours a day but is available between 7.30 am and 12.30am. This again is expected to be answered within 30 seconds so you should never be left waiting around for long. There are numbers for the UK, Eire and International. As well as this there is a decent FAQ section which answers a range of questions from Verifying your Account, to Sports Product Support. There is also a section for Top Queries which has some very helpful answers.

Usability of the Online Casino

The Betfair website is quite self-explanatory and easy to use. It offers more than most and as a result, needs to be simple to use and easy to navigate. It is the company colours of red and yellow so is very eye-catching. Along the top, you will find everything it has to offer, from Sports to Poker, Casino, Live Casino, Bingo and more – much more. Each tab should take you to the part of the site you need. When you go into the casino tab you can again be directed into different areas such as New Games, Slots, Jackpots, Table Games, Live Casino, Card, Arcade and Video pokers. So you should find whatever type of game you want easily. If you are looking for a single specific game, then you can use the search function. Towards the bottom of the site, there is a clear sitemap which will take you to more general functions such as Help, About Us etc. Everything on the site is easy to find and easy to use.

Betfair App: Many Different Slots

With the popularity of mobile casinos growing rapidly, and with a number of different markets it competes in, it is vital that it provides a good mobile app to keep up with the rest. It may not be one of the oldest on the scene but it has caught up and kept up nicely. The Betfair app is downloadable on Android and iPhone, so caters for most of the mobile market out there today. With the mobile casino, it does not offer exactly the same bonuses that desktop players receive, but it still offers lots of treats for its players as a reward for going mobile.

It isn’t the most visually attractive of the apps out there, but it offers a lot so it can be forgiven for this weakness. It is slick and responsive and completely reliable. It boasts great interactivity, which means you don’t keep having to flick from one screen to another as most of what you need is available on the one screen. There are about 100 games available to play on the mobile and the majority of games are slots, these include Top Gun, Gladiator, Age of Gods franchise, White King and John Wayne to name a few. However, you can also play on roulette, blackjack and other table games. You are also offered around 20 jackpot games, including the mighty Jackpot Giant. The Betfair mobile app is a very enjoyable substitute to the desktop site and is continually adding to its offering to add to your enjoyment.

Conclusion: Excellent Casino with a Diverse Offer

They maybe two-a-penny these days, but as far as the online casino competition in the UK goes, Betfair is one of the market leaders. This is the UK’s biggest online gambling company and not without reason. With a wide range of casino and arcade games, as well as the added extras of sportsbook, bingo, poker and more, Betfair provides a comprehensive offering, meaning there is something for every type of player out there.

It has all sorts of ways to deposit and withdraw money, and most of them allow you to withdraw in under a day, which is just great. It also has a great international customer support contactable in a variety of ways all day every day from anywhere in the world. The main point though, is the sheer number of licenses and certificates this casino holds. If a country has a licensor, then this casino probably has the license. It is tested and secure to make sure you and your money are safe and secure. You’re on to a winner with Betfair Casino.

Company

Who owns and operates Betfair? How long have they been in business?

Betfair is owned and operated by Paddy Power Betfair. This company consists of two previously British gambling rivals – Paddy Power and Betfair.

The two companies merged on September 2015. The deal was completed the following February.

This merger made Paddy Power Betfair the number one online gambling company in terms of both size and revenue in 2016, with a value of 12 billion dollars.

The company is located in West London, United Kingdom. Betfair operates under a Gibraltar license.

How’s their reputation? What do others think of them?

It depends on who you ask. Everyone has their own opinion or moral compass as it pertains to what’s arguably Betfair’s biggest mistake.

Back in 2010, Betfair had an offer that allowed players to claim an unlimited supply of happy hour bonuses. The kicker? This offer had a small 10x playthrough.

Players took to this offer like a pack of rabid dogs. It was a great offer for them …but a horrible offer for Betfair.

By the time Betfair realized their mistake, they were reportedly out 8+ figures ($10+ million).

Betfair screwed up big time. But instead of admitting they screwed up, and eating the loss, they decided to go the unethical route instead.

They claimed that players didn’t play in the “spirit of the bonus.” As such, Betfair closed players’ accounts, refused to pay them and stopped communicating with them completely.

There were even reports of Betfair confiscating funds directly from players’ accounts. One player even said:

Betfair pulled funds from their bank account without their permission.

This is obviously no bueno.

Now, because Betfair pulled this stunt, they’ve earned a semi-permanent place on several review sites’ blacklists.

For example:

Both ThePogg.com and Casinomeister.com no longer recommend them (despite ThePogg.com giving them an 8.1/10 rating overall).

Casinomeister.com wanted to pull them from their ‘rogue pit,’ but told Betfair they’d only do it if Betfair settled up with players. Betfair refused, so the rogue pit is where they remain.

ThePogg.com is taking a slightly different approach.

ThePogg.com talked with Betfair about another issue, and Betfair apparently took their advice and worked with the customer in question (to ThePogg.com’s satisfaction).

So, ThePogg.com pulled Betfair from their blacklist – however, their trust stat will not be higher than a 3 until Betfair pays players back for the happy hour debacle.

Anyway, that’s the biggest problem revolving around Betfair.

Both Betfair and Paddy Power have had similar issues in the past – voiding bets and not paying players out, despite there being no wrongdoing on the players’ behalf. It’s just when the sportsbook screws up and the players benefit handsomely because of it.

But while sites like ThePogg.com and Casinomeister.com have placed Betfair on their blacklists, other review sites don’t care about this stuff all and have chosen to overlook it.

And – in some ways – it’s hard to blame them because Betfair is solid in nearly all other areas of their business. A few trustworthy portals in this camp include SafestBettingSites.com, AskGamblers and CasinoListings.com.

My Opinion

It’s hard to stomach or accept what’s clearly rogue behavior. What makes it all worse is their lack of interest in making things right.

No matter how legit Betfair is elsewhere in their business, you can’t help but wonder if they’ll stiff you if/when you win a bet that was clearly too much in your favor – regardless if it wasn’t your fault.

The bottom line – they have an above average rating except for the few blacklists they occupy. But I’d scale that back some, and give them an average rating to reflect how poorly they sometimes treat their customers.

Customer Support

How do you contact Betfair? When are they available?

They have a robust FAQ section where you’ll find answers to all the common stuff I’m sure Betfair’s been asked time and time again. So, I recommend you start there.

If after that you still need to contact them, you can do so using:

Other than that, they also encourage you to send them a message via Facebook or tweet them on Twitter (though they haven’t been on Twitter for a couple of years).

Banking

What currencies does Betfair accept?

Betfair accepts several currencies, which includes:

  • Pound Sterling

Fees will vary, but it looks like you’ll pay 1.5% to 2% for e-wallets. Many of the larger, more well-known sites cover fees on incoming payments. I’m not sure why Betfair doesn’t.

Their deposit limits will vary between £5 and £32,500. Keep in mind this will depend on the option you use, as well as what currency you’re banking in.

What are your cash out options? Are there any limits or fees?

  • Skrill

Payout time frames will be between instant and as much as 5-16 days (for bank wires and paper checks). The daily cash out limit is £500,000.

One thing you’ll notice about Betfair is that they don’t have a central promotions page like most gambling sites do. You’ll find all the promos within the individual gambling products instead.

For that reason, we listed all their promotions on a product-by-product basis below. Keep reading to see what offers you can claim.

Tip!

What’s neat about how Betfair displays their offers – at least in the casino – is that they have a drop-down menu that shows you the eligible games you can play to clear the bonus. This makes it very clear what you can and cannot play, so not to (accidentally) void your bonus or winnings.

Sports Promotions

Right now, Betfair offers 10 different promotions inside their sportsbook. However, most of them are not really promotions, are limited time deals, or aren’t useable in the sportsbook.

Anyway, here are the details for their few sports promos.

  • Risk Free Bet – Opt-in for this offer and then make a bet. If you bet more than £5 in their exchange – and it loses – Betfair will refund you the £5 in cash.

This offer is only available for your FIRST bet in the exchange.

  • Best Odds – Betfair claims they offer the best odds on men’s tennis, English football, rugby and UK and Irish horse race and greyhound winner markets. It’s not so much a ‘do this, get that’ sort of promotion. But it’s great to see that if you plan to bet on these sports/markets, that you’re getting the best price – with proof to back it up.
  • Bet £10, Get £5 – Betfair has a limited time offer where, if you make a £10 Exchange bet on a specific soccer match, you’ll receive a £5 sportsbook accumulator bet.

While it sucks this is a limited time offer, there’s a good chance they’ll offer it again in the future – just on a different match, or for a different sport.

Casino Promotions

Here are the details behind Betfair’s evergreen casino promotions.

  • Welcome Bonus (Option 1) – This is a 100% match bonus up to £100. You can use this bonus to play on all their games. The minimum deposit for this offer is £10. The playthrough on this offer is 45x the bonus.
  • Welcome Bonus (Option 2) – This is a 200% match bonus up to £400. What makes this bonus different is that it’s to be used only for slot machines.

Once you’ve played your bonus you’ll then receive 100 free spins. The free spins will be given to you at the pace of 10 per day, for 10 days.

You’ll need to make a minimum deposit of £20 to claim this offer. The playthrough on this offer is 35x the bonus.

  • Live Casino Welcome – This is a 50% match bonus up to £200 to use on their live roulette game.

Once you’ve played through your bonus, they’ll also give you 5 Golden Chips, released to over 5 days (1 per day). That’s a straight up bet that can payout £70 per day, for 5 days. The min deposit for this offer is £20 and it has a 40x playthrough.

  • 30 Free Spins – This is for brand new casino customers. However, it’s okay if you have played on/in one of their other products before.

The offer’s pretty simple – you’ll receive 10 free spins over 3 days. You can use your free spins on one, or any combination of the eligible machines listed below:

  • Age of the Gods
  • Batman & Catwoman Cash
  • Batman & The Joker Jewels
  • Batman & The Penguin Prize
  • Batman & The Riddler Riches
  • Fate Sisters
  • Fields Of Fortunes
  • Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven Jackpot
  • Furious Four
  • Gladiator Jackpot
  • Goddess of Wisdom
  • Halloween Fortune II
  • King of Olympus
  • Kong the Eighth Wonder of the World
  • Magical Stacks
  • Man of Steel
  • Monty Python Spamalot
  • Prince of Olympus
  • Superman II
  • Top Gun

The cool thing about this offer is that there aren’t any wager requirements on any money you may win with your free spins. However, there is a max you can win, unfortunately – £30 total, or £10 per 10 free spins.

Poker Promotions

Here are the details behind their evergreen poker promotions.

  • Welcome Pack – Deposit/transfer £10+ and receive a £20 Welcome Pack.

This pack contains:

  • A £5 Twister entry. This has a £5,000 jackpot.
  • £10 in tournament tokens for Team Betfair live events.
  • A £10 playable casino slots bonus.
  • Betfair Exclusive Welcome Missions

On top of all that, you’ll also receive a 200% match bonus on your first deposit up to £1,000.

(I’m not sure why they call this a £20 Welcome Pack. Maybe someone needs to borrow a calculator?)

You’ll receive your bonus in £10 chunks for every 1,250 Status Points you earn. You’ll have 45 days starting from your first deposit to fully redeem your bonus.

  • The Bank Job – This is a promotion that runs every month. You just need to enter the code to claim the offer. To give you an idea of what they may offer – this month they’re offering players up to £100 in bonus cash.

Once you enter the code, your task is to play real money games and earn Status Points. Your bonus cash will be released to you in chunks until you get it all.

Here’s what that looks like:

Status Points Prize Total Prize
250 € 1.00 € 1.00
750 € 2.00 € 3.00
1500 € 3.00 € 6.00
2500 € 4.00 € 10.00
3750 € 5.00 € 15.00
6250 € 10.00 € 25.00
10000 € 15.00 € 40.00
16250 € 25.00 € 65.00
25000 € 35.00 € 100.00
  • Twister Races – Play as many of their Twister Poker games as you can. Earn points for every game you play, with more points awarded for winning and playing higher buy-in games.

Here’s what that looks like:

Twister Buy-In Played Bonus Points for Winning
€ 1 1 1
€ 2 2 2
€ 5 5 5
€ 10 10 10
€ 20 20 20
€ 50 50 50

The number of points you earn will determine your place on their leaderboard. The top 250 players win a prize, with the top 150 winning some cash.

Here’s what that looks like:

Place Prize
1 €1,000 Cash
2 €700 Cash
3 €550 Cash
4 €400 Cash
5 €300 Cash
6 €200 Cash + 3x€10 Twister Token
7-10 €100 Cash + 3x€10 Twister Token
11-50 €50 Cash + 4x€5 Twister Token
51-100 €30 Cash + 4x€5 Twister Token
101-150 €20 Cash + 4x€5 Twister Token
151-250 3x€5 Twister Token

There’s £12,500 up for grabs between the cash prize and Twister Tokens. This is a neat incentive to play these games, which is on top of the progressive jackpot you can potentially win – a great incentive in its own right.

  • Player’s Club – This is Betfair’s poker loyalty club. It’s pretty straightforward – play real money games, earn points, and then your points will be used to determine your loyalty tier and how much you can receive in cash rewards.

There are 3 loyalty tiers:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

You’ll receive a 3-5.25x multiplier depending on your status. This is used against your Status Points to determine how many VIP Poker Points you will receive. Every 375 VPPs equals £1 in cash rewards. The minimum number of points required to exchange for cash is £10.

This program sounds neat, but it sounds like it’s more of a cashback program than a VIP program. Most VIP programs have additional perks, such as a store to spend your bonus, bonuses, trips, and so on.

Arcade Promotions

Here are the promotions you’ll find in Betfair’s arcade.

  • New Customer Offer – Receive £10 as a bonus.

All you need to do is wager a total of £10 on one or any combination of the following games:

  • Starburst
  • Wish Upon a Jackpot
  • Fairy Fortunes
  • Lucky Wizard
  • Rainbow Riches

Once you spend £10 you’ll instantly receive your £10 bonus. You’ll need to wager this once (1x) before you cash out any winnings. You’ll have only 7 days to do it.

  • Free Bet Mondays – This promotion is like a lottery. To qualify, what you need to do is play one or more spins on any Betfair Arcade game.

Betfair will then use a random number generator to select customers to award chunks of the £15,000 prize pool every Monday.

  • Unlimited Free Bets – Wager a minimum of £1,000 on any of the following games:
  • Atlantis Treasure
  • Betfair Super Trails
  • Chests of Plenty
  • Cleopatra
  • Deal or No Deal - Banker’s Riches
  • Happy Fruits
  • Nostradamus
  • Pixies of the Forest
  • Twin Spin
  • VIZ

For every £1,000 you spend, you’ll receive a bonus of somewhere between £2 and £1,000 – and there’s no limit to the number of bonuses you can earn. Bonuses are credited by the 16th of every month.

This is a neat offer. While some people would rather have a fixed amount, I think it’s sort of neat to have a lottery style drawing. Sure, some months you might only win £5. But one day you might log into your account to find a nice £500 or £1,000 waiting for you.

Bingo Promotions

Here are the evergreen offers you’ll find in Betfair’s bingo hall.

  • Welcome Bonus – Stake £10 or more on bingo tickets and get a £10 welcome bonus. This has a 4x rollover before you can cash out.
  • Dynamite Digger – Play at least £10 on Dynamite Digger and Betfair will refund you 15% of your net losses as a bonus. You can only use the bonus money on slot machines, and you’ll have to wager the bonus 10x before you can cash out.
  • 20,000 First Friday – Play in the Helter Skelter Room between 6pm and midnight on Fridays. Spend £10 on tickets and you’ll receive a £5 bonus (which has a 4x rollover). There’s also an additional £20,000 in guaranteed prizes you can play for.
  • 20,000 Power Hour – This takes place in The Big Wheel Room every Saturday between 10 and 11pm. Betfair will run ten £1,000 guaranteed games, plus a £10,000 guaranteed bingo Linx game at 10:30.

You can receive a £5 scratch card bonus when you wager £20 on any bingo scratch cards (which has a 1x rollover).

  • Newbie Room – It’s a free bingo room open every Tuesday from 7-10pm. This room is only available to new players. To qualify, all you need to do is wager at least £5 before 4pm on Tuesday.
  • Hit or Miss – Play in the Chat Game where winners get to choose their position in a grid, and if they hit a ship on the grid, they win a bonus. Sink the ship and the bonus is doubled. To gain entry, all you need to do is wager £5 on bingo or slots. Then join the High Striker room on Sundays starting at 7pm.
  • Private Party – Join their invite-only Private Party VIP Lounge from 7-10pm every Friday. To gain access, all you need to do is wager at least £25 on bingo between Monday-Thursday. Once you qualify you’ll be able to access the room and enjoy 3 hours of free bingo.
  • Loyalty Pays – This is their loyalty program for bingo players. You earn points playing bingo and bingo side games. Once you hit a VIP level it’s yours for life. As you move up you’ll get perks such as faster point accrual and the ability to exchange your points for bonuses.

And... that’s it – that wraps up Betfair’s evergreen promotions.

Overall, Betfair has a lot of deals to claim. What’s more, you can claim offers from each of their different products. That includes welcome bonuses, so long as it’s your first time betting/playing there.

Sportsbook

Okay, it’s time to talk about Betfair’s sportsbook. But there’s one little challenge I want to address before we get started.

Betfair is MASSIVE.

Their sportsbook is MASSIVE.

There’s no way we can cover every little detail or nuance.

Betfair covers more than 20 different sports in their (regular) sportsbook alone. Of which, you’re likely to find HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS of different markets.

But that’s only Betfair’s regular sportsbook. They also have a betting exchange, an in-play (live) betting section, football jackpots, and a virtual sports section.

If we covered everything in this review, you’d spend all your time reading – you’d never place a bet.

So, what I’m going to do is cover the most important stuff below, most of which will come from their main sportsbook. The things we’ll cover include the sports and markets you can bet, Betfair’s betting limits, how they approach winners, and so on.

You’ll want to explore Betfair for everything else.

What sports and markets can you bet on?

Here’s a general list of the sports they cover:

  • American Football
  • Basketball
  • Current Affairs
  • Football
  • Horse Racing
  • Netball
  • Snooker
  • Winter Sports
  • Athletics
  • Boxing
  • Cycling
  • Gaelic Games
  • Ice Hockey
  • Politics
  • Special Bets
  • Australian Rules
  • Chess
  • Darts
  • Golf
  • Mixed Martial Arts
  • Rugby League
  • Tennis
  • Baseball
  • Cricket
  • E-Sports
  • Greyhound Racing
  • Motor Sport
  • Rugby Union
  • Volleyball

They also cover financials, greyhound and horse race betting.

Do they offer live (in-play) betting? Do they stream matches?

They do. Betfair was covering 77 in-play matches when I checked them out.

The majority of matches covered were football (soccer) matches, with the few others being tennis, basketball, golf, cricket and hockey.

They offer live streaming, too. You’ll know when you can watch a match when there’s a little play button symbol next to the odds. There were 20+ live streams running while I was there.

You’ll need to have an account to access the live stream. If you want to watch horse racing you’ll need to place at least £2 worth of bets on the race via the exchange.

What are their betting limits?

For the traditional sportsbook – it depends. Betfair doesn’t list their betting limits in their terms/conditions (that I could find).

SafestBettingSites.com says their max payout on top flight football leagues is £1,000,000 on match results. Other leagues have much lower max wagers – around the £100,000 range.

As for their exchange – since you’re not betting against the house, you’re not going to have to worry about traditional betting limits.

Note!

Betfair’s betting exchange runs in real time. You either back (to win) or lay (to lose) a market or wager.

This is done against other bettors on the exchange.

For this to work, there must be a simultaneous bet on both sides. One player needs to back a bet, while another lays it.

One thing some people – a limited few – will have to worry about are Betfair’s commission rates on money won in the exchange.

The starting commission is 5% (collected from net wins). But as you earn points (from placing real money bets), you’ll receive a discount. Discounts range from 0-60%.

Here’s an example Betfair gives to show you how the discount works:

  • You have net winnings in a market of £400.
  • The Market Base Rate is 5%.
  • Your current Discount Rate is 40%.
  • Therefore the commission you pay is £12 (£400 x 5% x (1-40%)).
  • You earn 120 Betfair Points.

Most people are going to be okay at these rates.

However, anyone who has £250,000 or more in career winnings will see Betfair raise their commission from 5% to 60%.

Important!

According to BitEdge.com, if you have:

  • Made profit over the life of your account.
  • Bet on more than 250 markets.
  • Paid less than 20% lifetime in total charges.

Then you’re eligible to pay premium charges at the end of any profitable week in which you paid less than 20% in total charges.

He goes into further detail about how this works and what you can and can’t do to circumvent this on their website.

According to SportsBettingSites.org, this move was made to increase player liquidity and to provide more value for the casual and small professional bettor.

They go on to say that Betfair could have simply increased their commission to 10% and called it a day. However, Betfair wanted to make it clear that that serious bettors are not welcomed on the exchange.

Tip!

Sometimes Betfair offers reduced commission. For example, when I reviewed them they were offering 2% commission on Premier League Match odds for the month. So, it pays to check back once in a while to see what deals they may be offering.

I highly recommend you read the SportsBettingSites.org review, as Jim gives an excellent explanation of how Betfair’s exchange and commissions work, as well as an example of how you can use the exchange to save money and/or cut your losses when you know your bet’s going to lose.

How do you access their casino?

You can access their sportsbook through your browser. That goes for both desktop and mobile users.

Betfair also has a native app for both Apple and Android-powered devices. You will be able to cash out, claim promos and bet on live matches. Basically, Betfair’s native app will let you do most of the things you can do from your desktop.

Anything else you should know about their sportsbook?

Yeah, Betfair offers a couple other neat perks or features all customers should know about:

  • Price Rush – Betfair automatically checks their exchange and, as a result, sometimes increase odds on some of your bets (singles only). This means you might receive more money for a winning bet than you originally thought.

What’s more is Betfair will never tweak the odds unless they’re going to be the same or better than the odds you were already getting.

  • Betfair Radio – You can listen to commentary on different matches or races. When I was there they were covering a couple of greyhound and horse races. They also had a couple upcoming broadcasts scheduled.
  • Cash Out – This feature gives you the option to cash out on a bet early. You might want to do this because you’re profiting now, but maybe you feel like something will happen where you’d ultimately lose your bet. Or, maybe you’re losing and you want to cut your losses.

Either way, it’s a neat option to have. It gives you more control over how much you win or lose.

Our Betfair’s sportsbook is their best product. Between their coverage, hundreds, if not thousands of markets, native app and features, all sports bettors should have an account here.

Betfair’s Casino

Betfair’s casino is like their sportsbook – absolutely massive.

They have several sections, which includes:

  • Casino
  • Live Casino
  • Vegas Slots
  • Macau

They also have their exchange games and arcade section, which for the sake of keeping this review from getting any larger, will be lumped into this section of our review.

There’s a lot going on.

Too much to add here.

For that reason, we’re going to focus on the big picture stuff – the software providers, types of games you can play, and what devices you can play them on.

Fortunately, there’s a lot overlap in terms of the games you can play in each section. So, you should still get a good idea of what you can play with the information provided below.

What software providers do they work with? What kinds of games can you play?

Betfair works with a variety of software providers, including many of the best in the i-gaming industry today.

For example:

  • Playtech
  • NetEnt
  • IGT (WagerWorks)
  • WMS (Williams Interactive)
  • Blueprint Gaming
  • The Games Company
  • Odobo
  • Red Tiger Gaming

They cover the full spectrum of games – live dealer games, table games, blackjack, slots, video poker, arcade games, scratch tickets, and more.

We’ll look at a couple examples in just a few minutes.

What devices is their casino compatible with? Are they mobile compatible?

You have 3 choices as to how you play their games – download, instant play (browser) casino or from your mobile device.

From your mobile device, you can either play from your browser – which looks pretty good to me – or download their native apps, which is compatible with iOS and Android powered devices.

What are some examples of games you can play?

Here some examples of games you can play and what section of the casino you can find them in.

Slots (in the Casino)

  • American Dad!
  • Robo Cop
  • Space Invaders
  • Batman & The Riddler Riches
  • Batman & Catwoman Cash
  • Batman & The Batgirl Bonanza
  • Batman & The Penguin Prize
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  • Superman the Movie
  • Superman II
  • Man of Steel
  • Fields of Fortune
  • Roaring Wilds
  • Age of the Gods
  • Life of Brian
  • Chests of Plenty
  • Miss Fortune
  • Jurassic Island
  • Halloween II
  • Jekyll & Hyde
  • Firemen
  • Jungle Trouble
  • Cherry Love
  • Ace Ventura
  • Bounty of the Beanstalk
  • Streak of Luck
  • Sherlock Mystery
  • Full Moon Fortune
  • A Night Out
  • Crazy 7
  • Easter Surprise
  • Football Rules
  • Gladiator
  • Lotto Madness
  • Marilyn Monroe
  • Pink Panther
  • John Wayne
  • Rome & Glory
  • Rocky
  • Reel Classic 3
  • Deal or No Deal
  • Ages of the Gods: God of Storms

They have a smaller selection of slots listed than you’d expect, given how many software providers they work with. But I bet that’s because these are all in their browser casino – there’s probably more in the download.

But even if that was the case, the slot titles above look awesome! Right away I know what would be on my list of slots to play:

  • American Dad!
  • Space Invaders
  • Batman
  • Rocky

All of these are slots based on TV shows, movies, video games and comic books.

But there’s many more themes to choose from. Not only that, but there are many types of slots you can play, too. For example, 5-10-line slots, 25+ line slots, slots with bonus rounds, free spins, progressive jackpots, and more.

Table Games (in the Casino)

  • Roulette Deluxe
  • Diamond Bet Roulette
  • Hi-Lo Premium
  • Premium European Roulette
  • 3D Roulette
  • Newar Roulette
  • Penny Roulette
  • American Roulette
  • Club Roulette
  • 3D Roulette Premium
  • Craps
  • European Roulette
  • French Roulette
  • Mini Roulette
  • Premium Roulette Pro
  • Premium French Roulette
  • Premium American Roulette
  • Pinball Roulette
  • Roulette Pro
  • Sic-Bo

There are more roulette games here than what most people will know what to do with. It’s a great opportunity to try a new variant to see if there are any new games you like.

Live Casino

Roulette

  • Betfair roulette
  • Paradise roulette
  • Grand roulette
  • Prestige roulette
  • Speed roulette
  • Vesta roulette
  • Aphrodite roulette
  • UK Roulette
  • German Roulette
  • Diamond roulette
  • Phoenix roulette

Baccarat

  • Sapphire VIP baccarat
  • Prestige mini baccarat
  • Squeeze baccarat
  • Tiger 7 seats baccarat

Blackjack

  • Betfair blackjack 2
  • Betfair VIP blackjack
  • Royale blackjack 3
  • Hermes blackjack
  • Vulcan blackjack
  • Apollo blackjack
  • Uranus blackjack
  • Hercules blackjack
  • Grand blackjack
  • Mars blackjack
  • 3-Card Brag
  • Sic-Bo
  • Casino Hold’em
  • Hi-Lo
  • French Roulette

This isn’t even all of your options, either. There are several we didn’t list here. But this gives you a good idea as to what you can expect.

Variants include different dealers (men and women), from both Europe and Asia.

While limits vary greatly, you can expect limits to be between .10 and £10,000, depending on the game you play.

There’s no free play available.

Card Games (in the Casino)

  • Cashback Blackjack
  • Premium Blackjack
  • Caribbean Poker
  • Blackjack
  • Blackjack Pro
  • Baccarat
  • 3-Card Brag
  • Blackjack Surrender
  • Blackjack Switch
  • Casino Hold’em
  • Pontoon
  • Blackjack UK
  • Blackjack Single Hand
  • Perfect Blackjack

Most of the blackjack games listed are blackjack variants. This is okay – great, if you like playing blackjack. But not so much if you like playing other non-blackjack games – you’ll only have 4 options.

There are many more Betfair can include. I hope they already have them, and it’s simply a matter of creating an account and downloading their software to get access to them all.

Video Poker

  • Jacks or Better – 10 Line With Progressive
  • Jacks or Better
  • Jacks or Better Multi Hand
  • Jacks or Better 50-Line
  • Joker Poker
  • Aces and Faces
  • 50-Line Jacks or Better
  • 4-Line Aces and Faces

Similar to the card games, I would assume they offer far more variants once you create an account or download their software. Because this is a small list of video poker variants considering all the software companies they work with.

Vegas Slots

In this section, you’ll find an interesting mix of slots that – from the sounds of it – are like those you’ll find in Las Vegas.

I can’t speak for all of them, but I see several that I have played in Las Vegas – such as the Wizard of Oz and Monopoly. And if I haven’t played those, I’ve played variants of those titles.

Here are some of the slots you can expect to find here.

  • Deal or No Deal – What’s In Your Box
  • Jewel Twist
  • Fruit Stack
  • Fruit Stack Deluxe
  • Top Cat
  • Ra’s Legend
  • Totem Lightening
  • Dragon’s Inferno
  • Bier Haus
  • Mega Fruits
  • Glitz
  • Sea of Tranquility
  • Fire Queen
  • Wicked Riches
  • Crystal Forest
  • Zeus
  • Kiss
  • Amazon Queen
  • Lunaris
  • Boulder Bucks
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers
  • Super Monopoly Money
  • Toy Factory
  • Spartacus
  • Elvis – The King Lives
  • Alice and the Mad Tea Party
  • Big Bad Wolf
  • Kronos
  • Zeus II
  • Da Vinci Diamonds
  • Buffalo Spirit
  • Jungle Wild
  • Michael Jackson King of Pop
  • Wild Jewels
  • Cats
  • Kitty Glitter
  • Wheel of Fortune Hollywood
  • Family Guy
  • Sherlock Holmes: The Hunt for Blackwood

Again, lots of fun titles here. I’d play Monopoly, Wizard of Oz, Family Guy and Sherlock Holmes. But there’s a little bit of everything for everyone.

Macau

Much, if not all of what you’ll find here are Asian-themed games, which isn’t at all a surprise.

Some of the games you can expect to find include:

  • Epic Journey
  • Dragons Luck
  • Divine Ways
  • Dragon’s Jackpot
  • Lion Dance
  • Fortune House
  • Wild Fight
  • Lucky Fortune Cat
  • Ten Elements
  • Stage 888
  • Three Kingdoms
  • Red Phoenix Rising
  • Fortune Fest
  • Magic Gate
  • Golden Offer
  • Mega Jade
  • Chinese Treasure
  • Jade Charms
  • Gold of Wealth

Betfair also lists their Asian live dealer games, which includes blackjack, baccarat, roulette and sic bo.

What’s noteworthy about this section is that most of the games listed have progressive jackpots. They’re all the same size, though – more than 750,000 when I checked them out.

Our Opinion of Betfair’s Casino

That’s their casino in a nutshell.

There are lots of games to choose from here. Betfair covers all the different types of games you’d find in a brick and mortar casino, from slots to live dealer games. Though, it’d be nice to know for sure if they offered some card games other than blackjack.

Overall, I think most people will be happy playing in Betfair’s casino.

I know I’d be.

Betfair Poker

Let’s talk about Betfair’s poker room.

Betfair is on the iPoker Network. There are a few benefits to this – one being their unique Jackpot SNGs.

But there are a few frustrating things about Betfair, too – and, honestly, most online poker rooms not named PokerStars – they don’t have tons of traffic.

According to PokerScout.com, Betfair’s currently 9th in overall (worldwide) traffic. The iPoker Network had 1,282 players online, at 8pm London/UK time on a Saturday.

This is peak hours, but they had a fraction of the traffic available at the top 5 poker sites.

I think this is going to turn off a lot of pros. That said, Betfair is pro friendly in terms of 3rd party software. Not to mention you’ll find softer games because of the crossover traffic from the sportsbook and casino.

The bottom line – there are both pros and cons to playing poker at Betfair. You’ll have to decide what’s more important to you.

Before you do that, though, let’s go over the games, stakes and tournaments Betfair offers.

What poker games and stakes do they offer?

Betfair offers holdem and omaha. Limits for both range from €.01/€.02 through €5/€10. Most of the action revolves around 6-max holdem.

Betfair offers fast fold poker games, too, which they call Speed Poker. When you buy into one of these games, you’re mixed in with a pool of players and seated at a random table.

Once everyone is dealt a hand, you’ll immediately have the option to fold your hand before the action ever gets to you. When you do that, you’ll be placed at a new table with a new batch of players from the pool.

This form of poker allows you to fold and fold until you get hands you want to play. It also allows you to get in hundreds of hands per hour – multiples of hands compared to a standard cash game.

Do they offer MTTs? What kinds of tourneys can you play?

They have lots of tournaments. When I reviewed Betfair, there were more than 290 active tournaments.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Betfair says they guarantee more than £3 million every month.

In fact, they guarantee more than £125,000 every Sunday.

Here’s their Sunday lineup to give you an idea of what you can play:

Time (GMT) Name Guarantee Buy-in
12:00 €5000 Deep Run € 5,000 € 50
15:00 €10000 Warm-Up € 10,000 € 50
16:00 €5000 Tea Time € 5,000 € 20
16:30 €5000 Sniper € 5,000 € 10
17:00 €5000 Deep Run € 5,000 € 30
17:30 €3000 Starter € 3,000 € 10
18:00 €10000 Phoenix € 10,000 € 20
18:30 €10000 Special One € 10,000 € 10
19:00 €30000 Sunday Premium € 30,000 € 50
19:15 €2000 Pinball € 2,000 € 3
19:30 €10000 Predator € 10,000 € 20
20:00 €15000 Master € 15,000 € 100
20:30 €5000 Madness € 5,000 € 20
21:00 €5000 Money Time € 5,000 € 50
23:00 €5000 Night Club € 5,000 € 50

This isn’t as much money or as high of stakes as you’ll find at sites like PokerStars. But you won’t find that at any poker site BUT PokerStars, so there’s no point in holding Betfair to those standards. It’s not fair, either.

What Betfair does have is pretty impressive, though. And remember, that’s only their Sunday lineup. They still run tournaments throughout the week.

Here’s an example of what they were running (or had scheduled to run) the day I checked them out:

Name Start (GMT) Buy-in Fee Game Rebuy

€100 Guaranteed 2017-08-13 2:15 AM €4.55 €0.45 Holdem No

These are smaller events, but I like that because they’re bankroll friendly. You can buy in for a few bucks – maybe get in for free – and you’ll get a few hours entertainment, maybe a nice boost to your bankroll.

And all the tournaments I checked out were limited to 3,000 or 5,000 players. I think this was a smart move from Betfair, so that each tournament doesn’t become a lottery. There’s still an element of skill.

Betfair’s SNGs

Betfair offers SNGs, too. The most noteworthy ones – and one of the things that makes the iPoker Network unique – are their Jackpot SNGs.

The idea behind these is simple – win so many tournaments in a row and you’ll collect the progressive jackpot.

Here are the different Jackpot SNGs you can play:

  • Dirty Dozen Sit n Go’s - Score a €2000 Jackpot by winning four Dirty Dozen SNGs in a row.
  • Rio – Jackpot Sit ‘N Go - Win at least €20,000 when you win six SNGs in a row.
  • Maui – Jackpot Sit ‘N Go - Get a minimum €10,000 bankroll boost when you take down five consecutive 10-handed SNGs.
  • The Fort Knox - Win at least €35,000 when you win six SNGs in a row. The buy-in is €40, and the Jackpot increases by an extra €7,000 if it doesn’t go in the first week.

I bet these become addicting, because you don’t have to win that many in a row. It seems easy, but I can guarantee you it’s anything but.

All the fun is in the chase, though.

Software

What about their software? How do you access it? What features or options are there?

Betfair has a download for both Windows and Mac. They have a native mobile app, too, as well as what appears to be a mobile compatible browser option.

Some of the features or perks you’ll have include:

  • Auto top-up during cash games
  • Auto rebuy and auto add-on for tournament play
  • Preferred seating
  • Multi-tabling
  • Anonymous tables
  • HUDs are allowed

From what I read it’s not possible to resize the tables, though you can choose the mini-mode option to shrink each table down.

Recreational players will appreciate the anonymous tables, as it’ll allow them to play poker without being head-hunted by better players. It evens out the playing field a little.

Our Opinion of Betfair’s Poker Room

This is Betfair’s 3rd strongest product, behind their sportsbook and casino.

That’s largely out of their hands, though. They have solid software, games and tournaments – all of which they control – but they’re severely lacking in traffic – which isn’t easy to control.

For that reason, I’d recommend you only play poker here to fill in your schedule, or if you don’t need to play dozens (or hundreds) of games/hands per day.

Betfair Bingo

Last up is their bingo hall.

From what I’ve read from other Betfair reviews, it sounds like they neglected their bingo hall until 2016, when they decided it was time to upgrade their software.

Has it made a difference?

I’m not totally sure, as I wasn’t familiar with their bingo offering pre-upgrade.

But you’ll find everything Betfair offers now below. And we’ll tell you what we think of it at the end of the section.

What bingo games can you play?

Betfair offers:

  • 90 Ball Bingo
  • 75 Ball Bingo
  • Deal or No Deal Bingo
  • Cash Cubes
  • Bouncy Balls Bingo
  • House of Cards
  • Roller Coaster
  • Rainbow Riches Bingo
  • Dodgems
  • Helter Skelter
  • The Big Dipper
  • The Big Wheel
  • House of Mirrors

Ticket prices range from 1p to 50p. Many of their games had hundreds of players, which I find crazy since it looks like there are games starting every 20-30 seconds.

Many of their bingo games have jackpots, too. They have a Millionaire bingo game with a £1,000,000 jackpot. I also saw one with a £37,000+ jackpot, a £10,000+ jackpot and a jackpot with almost £7,000.

There’s a lot of money to be won here.

It’s exciting to see!

Are there other games to play?

They have 81 different games you can play. It’s a mix of slots, jackpot slots and scratch cards. You can see the entire list on their website, or scroll to the top and read our casino section, as there’s likely to be some overlap.

How do you access their bingo hall? Anything you can tell me about their software?

You can play from your browser (desk/laptop), or browser or native app if you’re playing from your tablet or smartphone.

Their software was upgraded in April 2016. It sounds like they did a good job making it easier to use. They also added a few features, such as the ability to play more than one bingo game at a time.

Overall Opinion

I don’t have a ton of experience with online bingo halls. But it looks like Betfair has a solid selection of bingo games, bingo rooms and side games.

They also have several progressive jackpots, which I think ups the incentive to play here. It would for me.

The bottom line – for what it’s worth – I think bingo players will enjoy playing here.

Conclusion

What do we think of Betfair? Do we recommend them to our readers?

I have two thoughts –

I like what Betfair offers overall. Each product has its flaws, but I think people will enjoy Betfair as is – with or without improvements. The improvements would just make them that much better.

(There are a few exceptions, of course. The poker room, for example, as they need to improve their traffic levels in order for their poker room to become better.)

Betfair has several promotions and banking options, too.

Overall, Betfair is a solid all-in-one gambling site.

However –

It’s hard to ignore their past. For example, stealing funds and blaming customers for bonus abuse, when in fact it was Betfair who made a mistake.

And the biggest issue here isn’t that they made a mistake, but that Betfair didn’t admit fault and make things right – even when it was clear that EVERYONE thought they handled things wrong.

For that reason, I would sign up with 888 or Bet365 before I created an account at Betfair. I can’t help but think that, if you sign up here, you’re saying you’re okay if Betfair refuses to pay you for a legitimate winning bet if it hurts their wallet or ego too much.

That’s not something I can get behind.

If you can, then feel free to join Betfair. They seem to have a solid reputation otherwise.

Just remember that Betfair has, and will continue to operate with their best interest in mind, not yours.

How does betting on an exchange differ?

There are significant differences between betting with a traditional sportsbook and using a betting exchange. In this section, we’ll highlight the contrasts between the two formats.

Many bettors who don’t understand how an exchange works can become frustrated and disillusioned with the process. There are some important factors to consider before deciding which style of betting suits your needs.

The most obvious factor is that with traditional sportsbook betting, you can only back the odds. With an Exchange, you can also lay the odds. We’ll come to what this means shortly. In addition, with an Exchange, you’re not betting against the bookmaker. Instead, you’re betting against other Exchange customers.

Let’s delve a little further. With Betfair Sportsbook, the odds and prices are decided by the operator’s traders, who will assess a particular bet and calculate the price. These odds are rarely changed, unless there is a huge influx of bets placed upon them.

A traditional sportsbook’s odds also contain the bookmaker’s cut, or commission. A customer then places a bet on these odds, in other words, backing the odds. If the bet wins, the bookmaker pays out. The customer doesn’t have to pay a commission on their winnings. If the bet loses, the bookmaker retains the stake.

Let’s use an example. Betfair Sportsbook have priced England to win the European Championship in 2021 at 9/2. On the Sportsbook, you can only back these odds. In other words, if you think England will prove victorious, you can place a bet on these odds. If you don’t think Gareth Southgate’s men will return with the trophy, you simply don’t bet on it.

Using Betfair Exchange, you decide the odds. In other words, you lay the price, ‘acting’ as bookmaker. This can work in different ways. Firstly, using our example above, you can bet on England not to win the European Championship. Or, you can provide your own odds on England to win (or not to win) the Euros. Other exchange users can then bet on the odds you’ve provided.

We’ll try and keep this simple. Let’s say you don’t give England a hope of winning the European Championship. You might see this as an opportunity to make money, and so you ‘lay’ odds of 20/1 on the Betfair Exchange. Other bettors who fancy England could then see value in these odds and take your price.

If England don’t win, you ‘win’ the money that has been placed on the odds you’ve laid. If England do win, you will then be required to pay out.

If you use the Exchange, your funds will be subject to commission. This is one of the drawbacks of Exchange betting. The commission charged can vary, depending on how much you win.

Note: we would never recommend laying odds of 20/1, particularly if you’re new to exchange betting. If you lose, you could be paying out a huge amount of money. This is merely an example of how exchange betting works.

The dreaded commission

Always take into consideration the commission you have to pay when you’re betting with any exchange. Betfair Exchange commission rates can vary, and we’ll take a look at these now.

Betfair Exchange uses the Market Base Rate (MBR) to calculate how much commission you pay. The Market Base Rate, or MBR, changes depending on where you live. For UK and Ireland customers, the MBR is set at 5%.

You will only be charged commission when you win a bet on the exchange. So, if your net winnings are £100, you will have to pay £5 commission. If you lose, no commission is due.

You can reduce the commission rate by earning Betfair points. You earn points whether a bet wins or loses. The more points you earn, the bigger the discount on your commission.

The MBR can alter, though. Before you back or lay bets on Betfair Exchange, be sure to learn where the current Market Base Rate is set.

A disappointing aspect of Betfair Exchange is their introduction of Premium charges. If you are hugely successful, and win vast amounts, you could be required to pay further amounts.

Sportsbook vs exchange: What works for you?

Many Betfair customers use both the Sportsbook and Exchange facilities in their betting. It’s simply a matter of which suits your betting style. As we’ve stated earlier, there are major differences between how each aspect of the Betfair site works.

It’s vitally important that you understand the differences between a sportsbook and an exchange before starting to bet with them. However, once you get to grips with the, the more it will become clear whether the exchange is for you or the more traditional sportsbook that Betfair also have.

To summarise, we’ve listed some of the most important factors to consider when you’re looking at signing up to Betfair Exchange below.

Benefits of exchange betting

  • The ability to back and lay odds
  • Exchange odds can offer much more value
  • Greater freedom in choosing which odds to back

Drawbacks of exchange betting

  • Commission rates
  • Can be financially troublesome if you lose
  • Requires greater ability to assess value accurately
  • Multiple bets are not available
  • Premium charges can apply to more successful bettors

How does Betfair compare with other exchanges?

Betfair is the biggest online betting exchange in the world, and for good reason. The sheer number of markets available far surpasses those of their competitors, meaning greater liquidity and choice for bettors. Customers here have the option to bet on sports and events taking place across the globe.

The value of Betfair Exchange odds is hard to match, too, particularly on the most popular leagues and tournaments. Be aware, though, that you might find it difficult to find greater value in odds on less popular competitions, as you could at a standard sportsbook.

It’s also important to remember that while Betfair Exchange odds on the surface offer more value, commission comes into play on winning bets. Calculate how much will be returned to you after commission has been paid, and compare this to your possible winnings elsewhere.

In general, though, you’d be hard pushed to find a betting exchange who can offer a more complete, all-round experience than Betfair.

What else is available at Betfair Exchange?

Betfair Exchange further distance themselves from their competitors with their live streaming and betting options.

There are a range of sports available to watch at Betfair. Selected football, snooker, tennis and horse racing are all options, amongst many others. To access a Betfair Exchange live stream, you need to have a funded account.

On to live betting. The in-play service available here is superior to that offered by many traditional bookmakers. Throughout an event, Betfair Exchange update the odds so you can see what other customers are laying and backing. Laying and backing bets live is also a simple process.

Another pleasing aspect is that these features are available through your mobile browser and the Betfair Exchange app.

Markets available

As we touched upon earlier, Betfair Exchange markets are huge in number. This is particularly true when you compare Betfair to other exchanges in the UK. At Betfair Exchange, you can take your pick from almost 30 separate sports and events, encompassing thousands of markets each day.

As is typical with a UK site, markets on football are particularly high in number. In addition to the Match Result market, you can find Both Teams To Score, First Goalscorer, Handicap, Total Goals and Player markets available on all of the biggest games. These include huge games in leagues such as the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga among many others.

Outright betting is also a possibility at Betfair Exchange. Back or lay odds on League Winner and Top Goalscorer markets, in addition to many others.

Where else do Betfair Exchange excel? Simply put, pretty much everywhere. The range of markets across sports worldwide is astonishing. Want to back or lay on American sports? Betfair Exchange have you covered. Prefer horse and greyhound racing? Absolutely fine too. You can also back and lay bets on current affairs and politics markets.

There are also markets for the increasingly popular e-sports sector where you can bet on different teams, maps and major events.

Interface across desktop, mobile and app

For any form of online betting, an intuitive and reliable platform is required. This can enhance a customer’s betting experience greatly, along with fast loading times, graphics and simple navigation.

The Betfair Exchange desktop site is somewhat cluttered. For newcomers to the Exchange, the layout can be particularly confusing. Understanding how the desktop site works is a task in itself.

What Betfair do provide, though, is a dedicated Exchange app. Both the app and the mobile site are much easier to navigate, providing a seamless and smooth betting experience.

Deposit and withdrawal information

There are a number of deposit and withdrawal options available at Betfair Exchange. All major banking methods are accepted, including debit cards, eWallets and prepaid vouchers.

Available payment methods include:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • Bank Transfer
  • PayPal
  • Paysafecard

Be aware that Betfair Exchange charges a fee for using certain payment methods.

Licensing information

Wherever you bet online, make sure your operator of choice is fully licenced. Betfair Exchange is licensed and regulated by the Malta Gaming Authority. For UK customers, the operator is licensed by the Gambling Commission.

This ensures your safety and security. It also means that Betfair have a duty of care to all of their customers, including applying the aforementioned Know Your Customer scheme.

Summary

Betfair Exchange is a hugely successful operator. The biggest online exchange across the globe, there is much to be excited about here. The range of sports and markets can’t be matched by any other online exchange.

That’s not to say Betfair Exchange is perfect. We’d like to see a much more rewarding welcome offer for new Betfair Exchange customers. It’s also disappointing that some deposit and withdrawal methods come with a separate charge.

The commission rates, particularly the Premium charges, have caused a great deal of controversy, too. On the surface, these charges seem to punish the more successful bettors.

Having said that, we like the idea of earning a discount on future commission by earning Betfair points.

If you’re new to online exchange betting, there are few places better to start than Betfair Exchange.

In the twenty-plus years that the online gambling business has been alive and kicking, there have been several points where a person or group of individuals have created something innovative that would shape the future of the betting world. When Betfair opened its doors in 2000, they were far ahead of their time with their sportsbook offering; a first of its kind, the betting exchange allowed users to create odds on events and have others take those wagers in an open exchange.

The company has added several complementary products over the years, and a recent merger has created one of the largest gaming companies in the world. Today, I am going to take an in-depth look at Betfair and give it an honest, unbiased review for you.

About Betfair

As mentioned, Betfair was launched in 2000. Its founders, Andrew Black and Edward Wray, decided that they wanted to create a new way for punters to be able to place bets on their favorite sporting events. Usually, a bookmaker would set the odds for a match. Wray and Black wanted to put that decision making into the hands of bettors (more on that to follow).

Betfair has focused heavily on the UK and European gambling markets, where soccer is such a huge sport from a betting revenue perspective. The company has two gaming licenses: one from Malta and the other from the UK. Having these two licenses proves that Betfair is one of the most reputable businesses in the online gaming space; the UK Gambling Commission license is particularly difficult to receive, given all the due diligence completed by the regulatory board. All of this adds up to your money being highly secure at these sites (with one major exception, which I will discuss later on).

In 2010, the decision was made to take Betfair public on the London Stock Exchange. This allowed the company to raise significant capital and further cement itself as one of the industry giants. At the time of this review, the valuation of Betfair was hovering around the 2 billion USD range.

In 2014, Betfair was one a few online gaming companies to receive a license to operate in New Jersey, one of the few US states to allow regulated internet gambling. This is a license only for the casino, but that is an excellent foothold for the company as it makes its way back into the US market.

On February 2, 2016, the company announced a merger with another European online gaming giant, Paddy Power. The net result of this merger is the largest company by revenue of any of the regulated online gaming groups.

Who Can Play at Betfair?

As you might expect, with licenses from two highly respected gaming jurisdictions, there are some restrictions placed on Betfair with regards to who can access their suite of games. This list is constantly changing. As an example, I was a client of Betfair until they pulled the plug on Canadians having access in 2016. This is pretty disappointing for me personally, as I loved the site, but I understand more than most how important it is for companies to stay within the boundaries of these regulatory boards.

Here is the current list of restricted countries:

  • Afghanistan
  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Angola
  • Austria
  • Canada
  • China
  • Czech Republic
  • Algeria
  • Spain
  • France
  • Greece
  • Guam
  • Guyana
  • Hong Kong
  • Israel
  • Iraq
  • Iran
  • Japan
  • Puerto Rico
  • Portugal
  • Singapore
  • Turkey
  • United States
  • South Africa
  • Zimbabwe

Software Suppliers

Betfair uses proprietary software for their sportsbook offering. When they started the company, no one was licensing betting exchange software, so they had no choice but to build it in-house. While there are ongoing development costs associated with this, it is much lower than they likely would have had to pay in royalties to a third-party software company.

For their casino platform, Betfair has chosen to work with several partners. The most prominent of these software vendors is Playtech. One of the industry’s top casino software developers, Playtech manages both the download and instant-play versions of the Betfair Casino. For the non-download version of the games, content from suppliers such as IGT, Ash Gaming, CORE Gaming, Red Tiger Gaming, and SG Interactive have been integrated into the lobby. The result is an excellent combination of games featuring different themes and looks that will surely make any player happy and engaged.

The platform is also available via mobile devices. Depending on jurisdiction, you may be able to download their native app to your Android or iOS devices. Otherwise, you can access the site and games through your device’s browser.

The Good Stuff

Betting Exchange

Well, this is a no-brainer, right? I will go into detail about how the betting exchange works a little later on in this review, but I can tell you that being able to set the lines yourself and find people willing to take the wager is a complete game-changer for sports bettors. If you haven’t tried the platform yet, I encourage you to get on to it right away; you’ll be hooked from the first accepted bet!

Website Navigation

Sometimes when an online gaming site has so many different products and variants, the website can end up as cluttered as a teenager’s bedroom. Thankfully, this is not the case at Betfair. As the company has grown and added more options for you, their web development team has worked tirelessly to ensure that finding your way around the site is not an issue. As opposed to many cumbersome sites I have come across in my reviews, the Betfair navigation is clean and easy to comprehend, meaning you will spend less time clicking aimlessly and more time being able to place bets.

The Bad Stuff

Past Promo Disaster

While I could do some more digging and probably find some more things to dislike at Betfair, there really is no reason to do so when I can spend more time explaining to you how one of the world’s biggest sites tried to correct a terrible oversight in one of the most absurd ways ever.

You may find when Googling Betfair that a lot of sites like this have blacklisted the company, and you will also find a significant number of player complaints. After much research, I noticed that almost all the negativity centered on one promotion gone wrong.

In 2010, the company launched an aggressive “Happy Hour” promotion which offered players an unlimited number of 50% deposit bonuses to a maximum of $100 each time, with an absurdly low 10x wagering requirement. While this promotion only lasted for 4 hours, the result was disastrous; it spread like wildfire online, and players basically figured out that by just playing the minimum amount of times and by making massive numbers of deposits during those hours, they could gain an edge over the house. While this was noteworthy on its own, what happened next was nearly disastrous.

Realizing that they had just taken a multi-million-dollar hit on this promotion, Betfair decided to freeze all the accounts that had benefited from the offer. Following that, they started to confiscate money from these balances without any real explanation – there was no breach of the terms and conditions of the promotion. Rumor has it that they were also able to take money back from a player’s bank account; that is an egregious offense if true. The end result was the single largest confiscation of funds from player accounts in the history of the online gaming industry.

While it took some time to recover from this, the company continues to thrive, and I am assuming that marketing person has long since been fired. As there haven’t been any complaints like this since the incident, I am of the belief that, however catastrophic, this was a one-time event, and I am willing to give Betfair a second chance here.

Betting Exchange

So…what is a betting exchange, anyway? Well, let me try to explain in simple terms. Both Wray and Black had business acumen, and they realized that rather than having one single bookmaker create the odds with which the public must bet, an open exchange could be created. In this scenario, anyone could create a wager on a match and then post it into the exchange, waiting to see if anyone would take the bait.

Let me give you an example of how this works, using NFL football as an example:

Say you want to make a bet on the New England Patriots vs. the Green Bay Packers. The sportsbook has the line set at New England -3.5 points, but you are a huge Patriots fan, consider yourself a savvy insider, and you are confident they are going to crush the Packers. At Betfair, you can select the game, and then create your own wager: let’s say in this case, $100 that the Patriots will win the game by 7 points. Once you create the wager, it is posted on the exchange, where it sits until someone who thinks they would love the Packers and 7 points accepts the bet. At that point, there is a bet between you and another player, with the winner of the bet paying Betfair a commission for the action.

See how much fun that could be? Now you can be the bookmaker, posting lines that you feel are more attractive based on what you feel the outcome of a game is. Now…imagine thousands of gamblers and hundreds of sporting events, and you can imagine how busy that exchange is!

A couple of points to make a note of: when you post the wager on the exchange, the money is held from your account, even if the wager isn’t accepted. If the bet goes without action, then the money is returned to your account after the game starts. You do, however, have the option of freeing up the money by canceling an unclaimed bet before the game starts.

While there were instantly competitors to Betfair in this exchange space (Flutter being the largest of them), the advanced nature of these bets wasn’t for the average bettor, so Betfair now manages the largest online betting exchange by far, with most other sportsbooks choosing to go the more traditional route.

Sportsbook

Having this unique position in the market was great for Betfair, but that didn’t stop the company from wanting a piece of the house-versus-player sports betting market as well. The Betfair sportsbook engine is robust, showing odds on thousands of sporting events around the world. The company doesn’t just cater to the major professional leagues; you can find odds on almost any professional sport. Have a look at the sports currently featured on the Betfair homepage:

  • American Football
  • Athletics
  • Australian Rules
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Chess
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts

  • Greyhound Racing
  • Handball
  • Horse Racing
  • MMA
  • Motor Sport
  • Rugby Union

  • Darts

Many sports also feature in-game live betting; this is usually most popular for sports like soccer and tennis, where the matches themselves can be long and with only one result, so betting on individual aspects of each game makes them far more intriguing.

If all these real sports aren’t enough for you, there is a whole series of virtual sports that you can bet on as well at Betfair. If you don’t know what these are, virtual sports are essentially video games that play themselves; think of the demo versions of games you have likely seen, but attach a Random Number Generator to them and let them play to a result. These events take much less time to complete (a soccer match can be done in less than 10 minutes), so you can make wagers on them far more often.

Casino Game Selection

While Betfair is clearly a sports betting-first site, that doesn’t take away anything from their casino offering. The company knows how valuable an excellent casino offering can be, and with the partners they have chosen, you will be able to see the quality from the second you click on their casino link. Let’s take a look at some of the games being offered.

Slots

The slots offering at Betfair is fantastic; leading the way are the top-notch Playtech games. The combination of great pay lines and graphics to popular licensed content gives Betfair players access to hundreds of riveting slots titles. Here are a few of my favorites:

Table Games

Not to be outdone, the table games tab of the Betfair lobby offers you a vast array of games and variants, including several different blackjack games. For me, it is important to have this many options available when I enter a casino lobby. I can easily get bored after playing at so many casinos, so I need the variety to keep my attention. I am very pleased with the number of games available at Betfair; I am sure when you look at this list you will find games that you love, as well.

  • Baccarat
  • Casino War
  • Red Dog
  • Roulette
  • Craps
  • Pai Gow Poker
  • Keno
  • Single-Deck Blackjack
  • Caribbean Poker
  • Sic Bo
  • Pontoon
  • Around the World
  • Blackjack Switch
  • Casino Hold ‘Em
  • Let Them Ride
  • Poker Three
  • Tequila Poker
  • Blackjack Surrender
  • Blackjack
  • Blackjack Pro
  • Double Attack Blackjack
  • Lucky Blackjack

Specialty Games

All Playtech licensees get access to games that don’t fit into the table games category. These games, usually featuring terrible player odds, aren’t really my thing, but I do know many people who love them. Here is a list of those games at Betfair (you can also find some more video-game-style betting options in their arcade section):

  • Final Score
  • Bonus Bowling
  • Derby Day Horse Racing
  • Dice Twister
  • Heads or Tails
  • Jackpot Darts
  • Genie’s Hi Lo
  • Knockout
  • Wheel of Light
  • Wild Viking
  • Bingo
  • Rock Paper Scissors
  • Roller Coaster Dice
  • Mahjong
  • Mega Ball
  • Pachinko
  • Penalty Shootout

Video Poker

Where I do tend to spend a lot of time, no matter if it is online or in a land-based casino, is the video poker area. Video poker is one of the few games in a casino that, if played to perfect strategy, can produce an edge in favor of the player (even without a terrible promotion like what Betfair ran in 2010). You can choose from multiple variations of the popular game at Betfair, many of which feature multi-hand variants for even more excitement!

  • Two Way Royal
  • Jacks or Better
  • All American
  • Aces and Faces
  • Pick’Em Poker
  • Deuces Wild
  • Joker Poker
  • Tens or Better
  • Mega Jacks

Live Dealer Casino

If you want to combine the action of playing in a live casino with the convenience of not having to put on pants, then the live dealer games are perfect for you! Many online casinos have added these games over the last few years; I like the fact that there is a human at the other end of the camera, even though the game is still being played digitally. Here are the options you have in the live dealer tab of the Betfair Casino:

  • Roulette
  • Baccarat
  • Blackjack
  • Three Card Poker
  • Casino Hold’Em

Promotions

With so many different types of bets that can be made at Betfair, it is not surprising to see that there are tons of different promotions each focused on different verticals. Rather than clog up this page with details on all the promotions (you can check them out for yourself on their site), I am going to focus on a couple of note.

Welcome Bonus

Casino players can choose from two different welcome bonuses for their first deposit:

  • 100% to a maximum of $100 to be able to be used on all casino games
  • 200% to a maximum of $400 for slots play only

Obviously, it is much harder to clear bonuses playing slots. However, if you are looking to maximize the bonus, this is still your best bet. Personally, I chose to make my first deposit with a sports betting bonus, as I felt that gave me the best chance to actually come away a winner, even though the bonus was significantly smaller.

Live Casino Bonus

The bonus for live dealer games is slightly different. While the bonus is only 50%, the maximum is $200, and you also receive 5 chips to be played at Live Roulette. I like this bonus, as it forces players to try out the live dealer games, which as I explained earlier are increasingly popular in the space.

Banking

Unlike many of their competitors in the UK market, Betfair does not have any live betting shops to aid in the processing of payments, relying 100% on online transactions. However, they do have all the primary options for players who want to make deposits and withdrawals. There have been a few complaints about how long it takes for a withdrawal to be processed (a common complaint across the board in this industry), but given that this is a public company, it isn’t because the company doesn’t have the funds to pay.

Comp Program

The Betfair casino comp program is managed by Playtech. The terms are straightforward; you earn between 1 and 3 comp points for every $10 wagered in the casino, and points can be redeemed at a rate of $1 for every 100 points.

VIP Program

The Betfair VIP program is one of the most detailed and player-friendly I have ever come across in my time reviewing online gambling sites. The company clearly understand the value of having happy, loyal customers. There are three levels of the VIP program, each with its own set of benefits. The most incredible part of the program is the long list of VIP events that Betfair invites their VIP players to attend. Look at the list of places they have gone in the past:

  • Royal Ascot
  • Monty Python Live
  • British Grand Prix
  • Champions League Final
  • Cheltenham Festival
  • El Clasico (Real Madrid Vs Barcelona)
  • Cirque du Soleil
  • International Rugby
  • ATP World Tour Tennis
  • NFL International Series

As far as I am concerned, it is these types of events and non-bonus perks that separate the Betfair VIP program from the rest; these are prizes that players cannot put a true value on, as they are more aspirational. You should definitely check out the full details of the program on their website.

Customer Service

A world-class, publicly-traded company such as Betfair needs to ensure that their clients are taken care of in a quick, effective manner. This is especially true in light of what they did to their players in 2010 with the Happy Hour scandal. With this in mind, the casino gives you nearly every way possible to contact them. Not only do they have an excellent FAQ section which will take care of most minor questions, but you can also communicate with the Betfair customer service team via these methods:

  • Telephone
  • Live Chat
  • Email
  • Facebook Message
  • Twitter

I like that they are embracing social media as a front line for customer support. It is, after all, the first place a player will likely go to post a complaint these days.

Would I Play at Betfair?

Definitely. Let me be very clear here: I was a Betfair customer until they took away my access in 2016 when they stopped taking action from Canada. I LOVE the betting exchange idea and think it will continue to grow and become more commonplace as the years go by. These guys were the pioneers of this style of sports betting, and continue to lead the pack with their exchange. Having added high-quality casino games and a fantastic VIP program, they match up very well against their competition.

Yes, they did something awful to their players, but that was eight years ago. Since then, there have been no significant issues, so I think we can put the past behind them. As a result, I highly recommend Betfair to you for all your betting needs.

Pros and Cons

  • Top betting exchange online.
  • Win as much as you can get matched, no maximum winnings.
  • Support is excellent and payouts speedy.
  • Reneged on casino bonus offer back in 2010.
  • Commissions on wins jump up after £250,000.
  • Not available to Americans.

Betfair is one of the largest betting websites on the web. They are firmly the largest betting exchange online today, with no other site even close. BetFair is regularly at the top of the list for best-betting sites online, which comes as no surprise to us.

Betfair was launched in 1999 by founders Andrew Black and Ed Wray. They pioneered the idea of the betting exchange, allowing customers to wager at odds set by themselves or by other players. In September 2015, BetFair and one of its largest rivals, Irish-based bookmaker, Paddy Power agreed to terms for a merger. On February 2, 2016, the merger was completed, and Paddy Power Betfair was formed.

The acquisition was reported as Paddy Power acquiring BetFair. Paddy Power Betfair is owned 52% by Paddy Power shareholders and 48% by Betfair shareholders. The business is traded on the London Stock Exchange. Paddy Power and Betfair still operate as separate brands in a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Italy. The company is based in Dublin but have offices in several countries.

Betfair holds licenses in the UK, Gibraltar, Malta, Spain, Italy, the United States, Australia, Bulgaria, and Denmark. Betfair.com is not available to US citizens due to federal laws against online sports betting. However, they do hold a license in New Jersey to allow online wagering on horse racing in the state. Betfair added a fixed odds sportsbook in addition to their betting exchange in 2012. They also offer an online casino, poker room, bingo, and other gaming options.

A Personal Opinion on Betfair Sportsbook

What We Like About Betfair

There’s plenty to like when it comes to the biggest betting exchange in the world. Their odds are regularly the best online for all kinds of markets, not just sides, totals, and moneylines, but futures as well. Their futures markets represent a huge bargain compared to other bookmakers. The edge or vig on futures is typically one-third of that of traditional bookies.

Betting exchanges operate without the traditional vigorish of sportsbooks. Instead of playing against the house and trying to win their money, your funds will only be won from other customers at Betfair. Instead, when players win, they pay a small commission on their wagers to the house. Which, in this case, is Paddy Power Betfair.

The company is held in high esteem in their home country of the United Kingdom. They have won several Queen’s Awards. They operate worldwide where they can receive licenses and are strong advocates for legal online gambling in all forms.

What We Don’t Like About Betfair

This section will likely be longer than it is for most betting sites with such high marks. To be clear, Betfair is an excellent option for just about every sports bettor. They regularly have prices that are not available anywhere else when compared to the rest of the market.

Betfair’s reputation is sterling aside from one black mark in 2010 with their casino offerings. They ran a casino promotion several years ago that offered players the opportunity to claim an unlimited number of 50% up to £200 reload and deposit bonuses with a 10x wagering requirement during a 4-hour period in November.

The bonus was overly generous, to say the least. It gave even untrained slot or video gaming players a significant advantage if they didn’t play much over the rollover requirement. Betfair had lost a ton of money before they realized their mistake. Instead of honoring the promotion, paying the players who participated, and learning from their costly mistake – they went in another direction. Shockingly, they locked the accounts of the players who took part in the promo and confiscated the funds out of their accounts.

One player even had his winnings withdrawn from his bank account the next day! Betfair’s actions here are not acceptable in the slightest. They should have honored the promotion and not stolen from players. We’re not trying to underplay this case of clear theft, but since that time, Betfair hasn’t had any hiccups. In fact, they have been the fairest online bookmaker since that time when it comes to odds and resolving other issues. That’s one of the main reasons you will see them rated 10/10 or A at most betting strategy and review sites.

As far as other negatives, there just aren’t many. With such excellent pricing, most punters aren’t bothered with other small stuff. They also process payouts quickly, so no problems there either. One major negative for sharp bettors who win a lot of money at Betfair can be their rise in commissions. We will go into later into the article, but once punters have £250,000 in winnings on their account, their commissions will jump quite a bit, making any future action on Betfair a fruitless endeavor.

Betfair Sportsbook – Placing Bets

Those who have never used a betting exchange before may be intimidated at the prospects of trading on Betfair. At first, it can seem complicated, but once you jump in, you will understand quickly and betting on there will become second nature.

Betfair is an exchange that runs in real-time. There are two ways that players can wager. They can “back” a wager or market. Backing means that you are betting that your selection will win. The other option is a “lay”, which means you’re wagering the selection will lose. Both of these options are tied together in the exchange. For a wager to take place, a player must simultaneously “lay” a wager while another player “backs” it. Once this is done, a trade (wager) can take place on a particular market.

Commissions and Betfair Points

Betfair makes their money by charging a commission on wagers placed through their exchanges, which is only paid on winning bets. Betfair’s commission starts 5%, but as players earn more Betfair points, this will decrease. As players earn Betfair Points, they will achieve a discount rate. These are earned at a rate of £0.10. For every 10 pence bet, a player will receive a Betfair point. This commission is calculated by multiplying your net winnings by their market base rate. The discount rate is calculated each week at Sunday at midnight.

Betfair does accept a variety of different currencies. However, all points will be earned at the rate of 10 pence or currency equivalent. This is known by punters as “weekly decay.” Once the commission calculates your Betfair Points balance will be reduced. Punters will be able to prevent weekly decay of their Betfair Points by using a Betfair Holiday. Players can continue to bet during their holiday, but will not earn any Betfair points during the period.

All customers will receive one Betfair Holiday when they register and an additional on every three months after that. You can use the holiday at any time, cannot have more than four unused holidays on your account. All in all, Betfair’s point system does an excellent job of making their already elite odds even better. The only problem comes for those who are extremely successful at their exchange.

Premium charges can become an issue if you’re a sharp punter. Betfair states that “a small number of our most successful customers will incur Premium Charges.” Each week Betfair calculates your gross profits and total charges generated over the lifetime of your account. Those who have net lifetime earnings of over £250,000, commission generated less than 40% of lifetime profits and bet in more than 1,000 do meet the criteria.

These rates are nothing to laugh at if you’re winning hundreds of thousands at Betfair. Keep in mind that only about 500-800 players out of Betfair’s 4 million or more customers meet these criteria. However, it can cause some major problems for those that do. It’s a cash grab for Betfair and a shot across the bow for sharp high limit bettors. A group that Betfair apparently doesn’t want playing at their exchange with policies like this.

If Your Wager Doesn’t Get Matched

One of the few negatives of exchanges is that your bets need to be matched for them to have action. On the main markets, the majority of wagers are matched. Even when it comes to smaller markets, punters can usually find an option to “lay” or “back” whichever makes the most sense.

If you’re looking for a hedge a bet at another sportsbook and need to be sure your bet is matched, we would recommend placing it well ahead of time of the event. Players can also cancel unmatched bets, which will allow them to place the bet at another bookmaker or using Betfair’s traditional sportsbook offerings.

Betfair Review Highlights

Lots of Markets, Elite Interface

Betfair’s elite odds are just one excellent aspect of the sportsbook. Their betting markets are massive, and they cover nearly every sport in the world. The most popular markets at Betfair are football, tennis, and other European sports.

Although, unlike some English and Irish bookmakers, their betting markets aren’t centered on those sports. Betfair has markets on American Football, Australian Rules, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, darts, football, Gaelic sports, golf, greyhounds, handball, rugby, horse racing, mixed martial arts, motorsports, winter sports, rugby, and more.

The in-play markets are one of their best attributes. In-play betting is invaluable at Betfair. Just about every pre-match market they have is available for in-play betting. At Betfair, it’s live betting with both elite pricing and interface.

Maximum Winnings At Betfair Betting Site

Since you’re not competing against the house, maximum bet sizes aren’t an issue with Betfair’s exchange. As long as your bet is accepted, you can wager and win any amount of money on a single day or wager. As mentioned above, Betfair does provide a traditional sportsbook alongside their betting exchange. Their limits are on the higher end for tennis and football, but other sports are lower than some of their competitors.

Top flight football leagues, including the English Premier League, FIFA World Cup Finals, French Ligue 1, German 1 Bundesliga, Spanish Primera, Champions League and internationals all have a max payout of £1,000,000 on match results. Other leagues have considerably lower maximum wagers, but that is standard practice among bookmakers when dealing with lower level football leagues. Most other sports have limits that are lower, usually in the £100,000 range.

Betfair Sportsbook – Excellent Support

Betfair’s support may be the best on the web. They offer 24/7 support via phone, email, and live chat. They also have an extensive FAQ that answers most questions. The Twitter account “Betfair CS” is also available for support.

Speed when it comes to email and live chat is ridiculously fast. They answer all emails in usually just a few hours. Live chat wait times are rarely longer than a few minutes.

The World’s Best Exchange

Betfair isn’t just the world’s largest betting exchange. They’re the best option for any sports bettor. High limit premium charges aside, there few times that bettors will be able to find a price better than Betfair’s on most markets. They’ve had a single hiccup in their history and are one of the most trustworthy gaming companies in the world.

Betfair is the world’s biggest online betting exchange and are based in Gibraltar, therefore all of the actions of the site are regulated and licensed by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner under the Gambling Act 2005.

They’ve also managed to get a UKGC license so they can serve the United Kingdom freely. Basically this means that the site is regulated by two highly respectable organizations and that it can be trusted. The terms of the licenses mean that Betfair must:

  • Ensure that minors are unable to use the site for gambling purposes, until they are old enough to understand the risks that they take.
  • Make sure that all of their actions are completely fair to all, and transparent to everyone.
  • Provide assistance to anyone with a gambling related problem after using their site.

Given that the majoirty of bets placed on Betfair are punter vs punter transactions and not punter vs bookmaker you can live safe in the knowledge that payouts are guaranteed as Betfair hold the funds while the bet takes place.

As a publicly traded company, with profits into the millions, you don’t need to worry about payouts from the bookmaker side of things either.

Great depth of markets

What sports are offered?

10|10

  • 25+ sports
  • Great liquidity
  • Better odds vs bookies
  • Live streaming & In-play

Betfair is one of the better known names in the United Kingdom online gambling world, thanks to a number of high profile television adverts. They are the largest most active betting exchange in the world and have good liquidity throughout their different markers. These are:

  • American football
  • Australian rules
  • Bandy
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Bowls
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • Floorball
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Greyhound racing
  • Handball
  • Horse racing
  • Ice hockey
  • MMA
  • Motor sport
  • Olympic sports
  • Pelota
  • Rugby league
  • Rugby union
  • Snooker
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball
  • Winter sports

They also offer markets on more obscure things, such as politics and television series.

As well as offering a huge number of markets, the depth that these markets go to is also impressive. You will be able to find odds for the most popular of matches all the way through to the most obscure, as the coverage that they provide aims to be all encompassing.

Just looking at the football listings shows this – at the time of writing, they have matches between international teams listed next to clashes from the Chilean league! Not only do they have basic odds either – all matches have comprehensive coverage, with a multitude of different bets which of course have both back and lay options.

Naturally the more obscure the event you are placing a bet on the lower the liquidity will be. This is a problem which doesn’t affect many markets at Betfair and when you compare them to their closest rivals Betdaq it’s clear to see that Betfair are by far and away the market leaders.

In-Play Betting

Great for in-play & streaming

Is live betting offered?

9|10

  • Bet & trade in-play
  • Quality live streaming
  • Best live odds
  • Fast on-site updates

The bet in-play section of Betfair is one of the most impressive aspects of the site, as it offers everything that you will need to both bet and trade sports live, all presented in a completely intuitive way. You can simply go onto the main page and select the match in question, where you will find all of the odds, which change as the match progresses.

Betfair automatically refreshes odds every few seconds so you can track the market as people back and lay different outcomes. Markets are suspended for only a few moments when game changing incidents occur. Trading in play on Betfair is the bread and butter of many online professional gamblers – it’s just the best money making platform you’ll find in the sports gambling industry and you be pleased to know all features on the desktop site are also available via the Betfair app.

Live Streaming at Betfair…

Betfair is one of the only bookies to offer a comprehensive live streaming service to all members, and it can be found by selecting the “Live Video” tab on the “Sports” page.

The range of different events that it shows is absolutely stunning, with international cricket, a huge amount of horse races and football matches from around the globe all regularly found here. All of the upcoming events are listed on the right of the window so that you never miss the one that you are waiting for.

To watch live streams at Betfair one of the follow must apply:

  • You have a funded betting account or have bet in the last 24 hours (excluding horse racing).
  • You have at least a 50p bookmaker bet on the horse race.
  • You have a min of £5 on the horse race on the exchange.

Welcome Bonus

£100 free bet bundle

  • £100 free bet bundle
  • 5x £10 releases £20 free bet
  • Repeatable up to £100

New customer offer. Place 5 x £10 or more bets to receive £20 in free bets. Repeat up to 5 times to receive maximum £100 bonus. Min odds 1/2 (1.5). Exchange bets excluded. T&Cs apply.

You’ll find that Betfair are currently offering all their new customers a free bet bundle worth up to £100 when they open a new account (released in £20 chunks). This offer is only valid for bets placed via their sportsbook section and not the betting exchange.

This is where we have to start marking Betfair down. They are trying to push their customers towards the sportsbook when it’s likely they signed up to use the betting exchange. It’s certainly not shady but it’s confusing and obviously they make more money from the sportsbook so it’s a little sneaky.

To claim the bonus follow these steps:

  1. VISIT Betfair
  2. Click either a green ‘Claim Now’ button or one of the ‘Join Now’ links on the homepage.
  3. Fill out all the requested details and make a username and password for your account.
  4. The bonus code field should automatically be filled out, if not use code: ZBBC01
  5. Log into your newly created account and deposit £10 or more using your preferred method.
  6. Place 5x £10 bets on different markets at any odds of 1.50 or more and that will trigger a £20 free sportsbook bet.
  7. Repeat the process until £100 in free bets has been released.

Overall Review

Here’s our overall take on things…

Our Verdict of Betfair

Best online betting exchange

We rate all the betting sites we review with a grade based on the quality of the site and the way they treat their customers.

Betfair have been given 3.5 stars out of 5 which is the fourth highest possible. There are a couple of issues we’d like to make you aware of which are the reasons why we’ve not graded them any higher.

The first issue we have with Betfair is the fact that they are far to keen to put the cost of processing financial transactions onto their customers. A large percentage of the deposit options available at Betfair will cost punters when they use them and we feel that Betfair should really be paying the 1.5-2% processing fee’s that they charge themselves.

Deposit fee’s aside there’s one another issue with have with Betfair that’s even more concerning. In July 2011 they decided to up the commission for everyone who’s won over £250,000 on Betfair to 40% and higher. Basically this means that if you are a successful high stakes punter (using the exchange) then Betfair don’t want to know you – even though they match bets between people and don’t act as a bookmaker.

They aren’t losing anything when people win, in fact they take commission on winning bets only so this stance seems crazy. We don’t like, it sets a bad precedent and who knows how long before they decide to hike their commissions again.

Not cool… but they’re still the best betting exchange out there and if you want the option to both back and lay bets then Betfair is the only really legitimate choice.

Finding the perfect online gambling destination for your specific needs can often be quite a tricky business. There are all sorts of considerations that need to be taken into account before you can fully commit your time, and, perhaps more importantly, your hard-earned money. Compounding an already-difficult decision even further, there are hundreds of online gambling sites that you would need to investigate thoroughly, too.

Over the past decade, the online gambling industry has exploded, and 2017 alone saw the birth of dozens of new sites. So how does one go about finding the perfect gambling site without wasting too much time or money? One option is to follow the recommendations of other gamblers, although this won’t necessarily guarantee that you will find the best gambling site for your specific needs.

What most experienced online gamblers recommend, particularly for new players, is to read in-depth reviews of top online gambling sites. This approach will yield much better results since online reviews examine key areas that will affect the sort of gambling experience you will get online.

However, it is also important to bear in mind that you shouldn’t just visit any old online gambling review site. Just as it is with the actual online gambling site, review sites need to be picked very carefully. The main reason for this is that many online review sites are actually paid by online sportsbooks and casino to paint them in the best light possible.

If you were to take the word of sponsored review sites, you would run the risk of not knowing the bad points (and there could be many) of a particular online gambling site. However, if you have read this far, you are already well on your way to finding the best and safest online gambling sites that will perfectly complement your specific needs or gambling habits.

This is because this is a fully impartial online sports betting and online gambling review site. I am not paid by any online gambling site and therefore have no vested interest in whether you click through to one of the sites that I review. My only concern is providing you with the most detailed information possible so that you can make the best decision for your specific needs.

My no-holds-barred and super-detailed reviews, like this detailed Betfair review, don’t pull any punches. I show you the brand with warts and all, as the saying goes. Sure, the sites I review may not always appreciate my honesty, but at least I know that readers are getting the full picture before they sign up.

These sorts of reviews are for serious gamblers who wish to know everything there is to know about a particular online gambling site. However, my reviews also cater to the casual gambler that loves to be able to make a considered and measured decision before signing up.

This is exactly what you will find in this extensive Betfair review. I’ll show you the sort of games you can find at Betfair, how their banking and customer support works, how you can get the best deal on their bonus offers, and much more. I also look at other important considerations, such as the quality of their user interface and the overall experience you could expect to get at Betfair.

Ratings Breakdown

Overall

Betfair is one of the undisputed leaders in online sports betting as well as a wide variety of online gambling, from poker and bingo to virtual casino games and live dealer games. This is not an easy status to achieve and is pretty impressive. In fact, the massive online gaming industry recently recognized Betfair’s achievements, awarding it Casino Operator of the Year status in 2016.

I found that, for anyone looking for a one-stop shop sort of online gambling experience, there are few as good as Betfair. I like the fact that you only need a single user account to access any of their gambling options, making light work of placing a few bets on top sports and playing a hand or two of live blackjack all at the same time.

Aside from their palette of excellent online gaming options, Betfair knows what they are doing when it comes to ensuring that their customers are well taken care of. This includes multilingual customer support, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and throughout the year, as well as excellent banking and top overall site security. Betfair can be accessed via desktop through flash or full download, as well as on-the-go via the universal Betfair mobile platform.

Game Variety

Gaming variety is excellent thanks to partnerships with many of today’s top online software providers. However, Betfair’s main software partner is none other than Playtech, one of the original software brands that helped fire up the online casino industry in the nineties. Together with Playtech, Betfair is able to offer an extensive and impressive selection of online casino games to suit all tastes and preferences.

Betfair doesn’t just stick to a single casino platform and then stock it with a collection of slots and table games; they do far more than that. Sure, if you’re looking for a more classic virtual casino platform, Betfair has that in abundance. Their main casino features hundreds of slots, video poker games, jackpot games, table and card games, and a live dealer casino.

However, they take it even further with a separate dedicated Asian-inspired casino called Macau Casino, a separate Vegas Slots page, dedicated poker and bingo pages, and a cool Arcade page featuring a unique collection of slots, table games, and more.

Cashouts

Cashouts at Betfair are among the fastest in the industry, with most cashout requests processed in 24 hours or less. Of course, this does depend on you having all of your necessary paperwork in order to ensure a smooth and efficient process. You will find a solid range of payment options available to suit every region or territory that Betfair operates within.

This includes the standard Visa and MasterCard options, along with a range of eWallets, bank transfers, and more. Security at Betfair is excellent, with the latest SSL encryption protocols protecting Betfair’s servers, which includes all customer details, private banking information, and deposits and withdrawals from their cashier. This extends to their mobile platform as well.

Bonuses

I was excited to see that Betfair approaches their bonuses with some thought and imagination. Instead of only offering one basic bonus offer for new players the way that most online sites do – or even worse, no bonus at all – Betfair offers no less than four.

Starting with an exclusive no-deposit offer that is designed just for new members signing up from the UK, Betfair expands their offering to include all of the areas of the globe in which they operate. New players can choose from three different and exclusive bonus offers, with one option for all games (a sort of general all-round offer), an exclusive slots-only offer, and a hot offer to play live-dealer roulette.

Customer Service

As expected, customer service at Betfair is excellent, with the only fly in the ointment being the lack of an actual live-chat facility. You can actually chat with Betfair customer support live, just not in the usual live-chat interface that you would normally see on an online casino’s pages. Their version is a bit more like a standard email contact form, where you open a request, fill in your problem or question, and wait for a response.

On the other hand, you can chat with them on Facebook, or simply email them or call their phone support service. All channels of communication are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and throughout the year. Typical response times to calls or chat requests are around thirty seconds, with most email turnaround times at under 48 hours.

User Interface

Betfair’s user interface is vibrant, modern, and quite distinctive. Their color scheme may not appeal to all tastes, but it is interesting and sporty and I quite liked it. Aside from great aesthetics, the Betfair user interface is sleek and fast, with very little getting in the way of some serious sports betting or casino gambling.

I also gave a few extra points to Betfair for keeping their banners tasteful and any additional advertising of products and options to a minimum. There is really nothing worse than constant distractions while you are trying to set up a bet or choose a fun online casino game to play.

With Betfair, you only need a single account to access all of their products, which includes their sportsbook, casino, live casino, poker room, bingo page, and mobile platform. I found the Betfair mobile platform to be every bit as good as their desktop site, offering the same quick and easy user interface experience. Betfair’s user interface is intuitive and sophisticated, providing a robust interface for experienced gamblers, and an easy-to-navigate site for newbies, too.

Who Are They?

The Betfair name is well known to sports bettors all over the world, with an online sportsbook that has been operating since 2000, making it one of the oldest online sports betting sites on the web. Betfair was one of the first to expand their reach into the world of online casino gambling when they launched their casino in 2006.

Just like with their sportsbook, the Betfair casino is a UK brand with licensing through both the Malta Gaming Authority and the UK Gambling Commission. The expanded platform allows Betfair members the option and opportunity to play a range of high-quality virtual casino games as well as live-dealer casino games. The Betfair casino gaming options are further expanded to include an exclusive Macau Asian-style casino, as well as Vegas slots. Betfair members can also enjoy top sports and various betting markets, virtual sports, bingo, and much more with a full download option, Flash gaming, and mobile betting and gaming.

In 2016, Betfair merged with Paddy Power to create a new online sports betting and casino gambling platform known as Paddy Power Betfair. The merger gave Betfair a far greater reach in the world of online gambling, expanding its markets in several key areas. Also in 2016, Betfair received industry recognition by winning the prestigious EGR (eGaming Review) Awards for Casino Operator of the Year, further cementing their place at the top of the ever-expanding online casino industry.

Today Betfair is recognized the world over as a complete online betting and gambling platform, both for serious gamblers looking for high stakes games and sports markets, as well as casual gamblers looking for a great way to spend a few hours online.

Fans of Betfair enjoy the fact that they can choose to go all-out with a full download, or simply grab a quick game through their flash site. Betfair fans also agree that the latest additions to the site, the live casino, and mobile platform, are among the best in the industry, adding significantly to the overall Betfair platform. Whatever your preferred method of play is, or whether you enjoy slots, live games, sports, or virtual sports, Betfair could well turn out to be your best option.

Software Partners

Betfair has chosen to go the route of partnering with multiple leading online casino software brands. The school of thought behind the software that powers an online casino or sportsbook is quite divided on this topic. While some believe that partnering with a single source software provider provides cohesion and continuity, others believe that multiple software partners create depth and range.

There really is no right or wrong approach, and it really all depends on the gambling site in question. For instance, Betfair was and is primarily an online (as well as offline) sportsbook that has added an online casino option. However, unlike many online sportsbooks that think of their online casino as a simple distraction for their punters, Betfair takes it far more seriously.

To this end, they have partnered with some of the biggest and brightest names in online casino software. These significant and strategic partnerships have allowed Betfair the opportunity to create a seriously competitive online casino platform, complete with cutting-edge slots, jackpot games, table and card games, video pokers, and much more.

Betfair even has a live-dealer casino option available, something that many other online sportsbooks have missed entirely. Moreover, Betfair’s string of partnerships has successfully spilled over to their mobile sportsbook and casino platform, allowing their customers unprecedented access to top sports markets and casino games on the go.

The list of current software brands that Betfair has partnered with includes:

  • NetEnt
  • Blueprint Gaming
  • Playtech
  • Cryptologic
  • The Games Company
  • WMS (Williams Interactive)
  • Red Tiger Gaming
  • IGT (WagerWorks)

Betfair has one of the nicest displays on their main casino homepage, using a trendy and dynamic thumbnail style display. Their homepage display is divided into various sections to make it quick and easy for new players (or players that aren’t sure what they’re in the mood to play) to find a great game right off the bat.

Leading the page right at the top is their Featured Games section, which displays an eclectic selection from all of their main game sections, including table and card games, video pokers, and so on. The Featured Game section follows their highly effective thumbnail display style, with some games highlighted by taking more than one space, and others with two squeezed into the space of a single thumbnail. This creates a wonderfully dynamic effect, as your eye wanders far more easily over all possible gaming options.

Of course, the Featured Games isn’t the only section of the Betfair Casino homepage. Each additional section helps to create an ‘at a glance’ type of convenience, allowing Betfair members to pick recommended games from the featured section, or any other more specific section on the homepage, including:

  • New Games
  • Jackpots
  • Biggest Wins
  • Number of Spins

As you may have already deduced from the above list, the quick-link sections on the Betfair Casino homepage are very well thought out. There is no space wasted with unnecessary fluff or distraction, and if you’re looking for jackpots of all sorts, you know where to look. If you want to narrow your choices down, you can easily do this by only looking at the games that offer the biggest wins (on record), or pick great slots based on the number of spins that they offer.

Slots

The most apparent benefit of Betfair teaming up with virtually all of the top software providers in the industry can be seen in the very impressive slots collection. Clicking on the slots tab on the Betfair casino page reveals a vibrant and trendy thumbnail-style display. A nice touch is that some games are quite a bit larger than a standard thumbnail. This not only serves to highlight that particular slot, but it also creates a more interesting and dynamic visual display.

There are hundreds of great slots to choose from at Betfair, with plenty to suit all tastes and preferences. However, over the years, it seems that Playtech slots have become the most common slot type at Betfair. There are a few from other software providers, such as Cryptologic and WMS, but this is more of a Playtech fan’s paradise, with top Playtech favorites including Gladiator, Ace Ventura, and many others.

To make choosing from their hundreds of slots even easier, Betfair offers additional quick links based on certain popular gaming features that define their slots collection, as follows:

  • New
  • Bonus Rounds
  • Free Spins
  • 25+ lines
  • 15-20 lines
  • Dollar Ball
  • 5-10 lines
  • Multi

The following short list should give you a good idea of the sort of slots that you will currently find on the Betfair Casino slots page:

Jackpots

Everybody loves a good jackpot game, as there is nothing that can quite compare to the excitement and the adrenaline rush of chasing that massive potential payday. We’ve all heard or read stories of how an average guy or girl was transformed overnight into a fully-fledged millionaire. How it took just one spin on their favorite progressive jackpot slot to win millions.

In fact, one of the biggest single wins ever recorded happened a few years ago when a regular British soldier won close to two million USD on a single spin while playing on his mobile.

Here’s the thing that most people don’t know about jackpot games.

Not all jackpot games are actually slots, and to take it even further, not all jackpot games are progressive. Just like any other online casino game, you get different strokes for different folks. You will see a group of games referred to as jackpot games at just about any online casino. However, there are basically two distinct types of jackpot games that you will always find at online casinos: the fixed jackpot, and the progressive jackpot.

Fixed jackpot games can be loads of fun, and they are available as video slots, video poker games, and select table games such as blackjack or certain pokers. The reason they are called ‘fixed’ jackpots isn’t that they’re rigged; it’s because the ultimate jackpot payoff has been set by the software brand that made the game, which means you literally can’t win any more than that amount.

On the other hand, progressive jackpot games take jackpot gaming to an entirely new level. Progressive jackpot games have become massively popular, not just online, but at brick-and-mortar (land-based) casinos as well. As the name suggests, progressive jackpots ‘progress,’ and the biggest amount you can win is not set by the manufacturer of the game.

The way in which progressive jackpot games work is that every single time someone plays the game, a certain percentage of their total stake is added to the total jackpot. In this way, every player helps to progress the jackpot further along. This means that any progressive jackpot game may start off at, say, $10,000, but will progress with no limit, potentially going into the millions. The speed of a progressive jackpot’s growth is determined by how popular that particular game is; the more popular, the faster it will get into the millions.

As with fixed jackpot games, progressive jackpots are not exclusive to slots, and can be found in certain video poker games, certain blackjack or baccarat games, and in some video poker games too. It all depends on the software providers and how they want their game to be played. Generally speaking, any game that features a progressive jackpot, or even a fixed one, will be very popular.

In a similar way of thinking, any online casino that wants to do well and attract as many new players as possible (and keep the ones they already have) will most certainly have a jackpot section or page on their casino website. Some online casinos will mix it up with fixed and progressive jackpots. Other casinos will keep it purely at progressives, while others will also add non-slots jackpot games. It all works out for the players and can be an incredible experience overall. Betfair likes to mix it up and offer a range of jackpot games, featuring progressive paydays, slots, blackjack, poker, and other games to choose from. The following illustrates the current selection of jackpot games available at Betfair:

  • Zhao Cai Jin Bao Jackpot
  • God of Storms
  • Nian Nian You Yu

Table Games

Betfair neatly divides their non-slots games into various categories, making it quick and easy to find the games you want to play. There is no need to waste your valuable time trawling through endless pages of thumbnails trying to find a great roulette game, for example. Thanks to the casino homepage, which contains a sample of each game type available, getting started with a game takes a matter of seconds.

Alternatively, one can simply click on any of the game tabs near the top of the homepage, which allow you to go to a page specifically dedicated to a genre, such as table games. With Betfair’s categorization system, the tab marked ‘Table Games’ is dedicated mainly to variations on the classic casino game of roulette. This includes standards such as French, American, and European roulette, as well as modern versions like mini and pinball roulette.

However, since this category is labeled as ‘table games’ and not just as ‘roulette games,’ you will also find a few other interesting games worth playing, including craps and sic bo. The following lists most of the games that you will currently find under the Betfair table games tab:

  • Roulette Deluxe
  • Diamond Bet Roulette
  • Premium European Roulette
  • Penny Roulette
  • Age of the Gods Roulette
  • NewAR Roulette
  • 3D Roulette
  • 3d Roulette Premium
  • American Roulette

  • Craps
  • European Roulette
  • French Roulette
  • Mini Roulette
  • Pinball Roulette
  • Premium American Roulette
  • Premium French Roulette
  • Premium Roulette Pro
  • Roulette Pro
  • Sic Bo

Card Games

As with the table games tab, Betfair has arranged their other non-slots casino games on another page marked as ‘Card Games.’ As the name suggests, these are all the casino games that use standard playing cards in their central gameplay. Fans of blackjack will, therefore, find stacks of great blackjack games to choose from. This includes standard blackjack games, as well as cool variations such as Blackjack Surrender, Blackjack Switch, and others. This is also where you will find other popular card games such as baccarat, Caribbean Stud Poker, Casino Hold’em, and other card games like pontoon. The following lists the current selection of casino card games available at Betfair:

  • Lucky Lucky Blackjack
  • Cashback Blackjack
  • Caribbean Stud Poker
  • Premium Blackjack
  • Hi-Lo Premium
  • Baccarat
  • Blackjack
  • Blackjack Pro
  • Blackjack Surrender

  • Casino Hold’em
  • Premium Blackjack Single Hand
  • Perfect Blackjack
  • Pontoon
  • UK Blackjack

Video Poker

Ever since it was first introduced to brick-and-mortar casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, video poker has been enormously popular. Today, video poker is one of the most played games online, and for good reasons. For one thing, video poker appeals to both slots fans and card game fans in equal measure. This is because video poker is quite unique, as it bridges the gap between video slot games and other casino games such as table poker quite nicely.

Another reason that video poker is so popular is that it offers players the chance to enjoy a simple and fast-paced game that is just as easy to play as video slots, but with the added advantage and excitement of using basic poker strategy. Video poker consists of two rounds, and the idea is to get the best possible hand or combination from just five cards.

While there are plenty of variations available on this basic concept, Betfair currently only offers nine different video poker games. However, the actual collection contains some very nice versions of the game, and is sure to appeal to novice and video poker pros alike.

  • Deuces Wild Multi-Hand
  • 4-Line Aces and Faces
  • Aces and Faces
  • Jacks or Better
  • 10-Line Jacks or Better
  • 4-Line Jacks or Better
  • Jacks or Better Multi-Hand
  • 50-Line Jacks or Better
  • Joker Poker

Arcade Games

Betfair is pretty smart when it comes to the way that they have organized their online casino. I appreciate the little touches in a top online casino; believe it or not, they do make all the difference. In the case of Betfair, it happens to be the additional tab for arcade games.

Arcade games, in case you haven’t heard of this category before, are the kind of games that don’t really fit in anywhere else at an online casino. These are sometimes also referred to as ‘novelty games,’ since they can be quite, well, novel in how they work. The following list gives you a good idea of the sort of arcade games that you will currently find at Betfair casino:

  • The Money Drop
  • Around the World
  • Bonus Bowling
  • Darts
  • Frankie’s Fantastic 7
  • Jackpot Darts
  • Penalty Shootout
  • Sic Bo
  • Spin a Win

Live Casino

Next to mobile casino gaming, live dealer or live casino gaming has become the most popular online casino product in 2017. In fact, any online casino that still does not have a live casino platform seriously runs the risk of becoming completely obsolete; that’s how important and significant live casino gaming really is now.

Luckily, Betfair knows this to be true, and currently offers quite a solid live dealer casino platform. The thing that makes their live dealer casino platform stand out a bit more is that it is a Playtech live casino, one of the best in the industry. Playtech is leading the way in live online gaming technology, and currently operates two state-of-the-art studios to accommodate their growing online live dealer product range.

The majority of their live games are streamed directly to a number of different premium online casinos (including Betfair) from their massive live casino studio in Riga, Latvia. The highest quality live casino games, including roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and various pokers, are streamed in full HD quality directly to your computer in real time.

In addition to their classic live dealer casino games streamed from their European studios, Playtech also offers a range of other interesting live dealer games, such as Sic Bo, that are popular in the Asian markets, as well as other global markets. These studios feature the same state-of-the-art facilities, but are streamed in real time from their studios in the Philippines.

If you have yet to experience the incredible reality and exciting gameplay that can only be found in live dealer games, you are in luck, as Betfair currently offers seven different live dealer games. While this may seem to be very few games when compared to other casino games, it is still quite a bit more than many other online casinos currently offer.

Live dealer games are exciting and very addictive; thanks to incredible HD quality video, these are as close as you will ever get to a real casino experience without leaving your home. What is even better is that many of these live dealer games are now available on mobile play, meaning that you can enjoy a real live casino experience anywhere you like.

Live casino games are often referred to as live dealer games, which is a bit more accurate, since the central attraction to many of these games is the dealer or croupier. Thanks to huge advances in online video interface technology, and an increase in available bandwidth, live dealer games allow you to enjoy a range of incredible and unique features.

These include the ability to actually chat and interact with your live dealer, which can add even more of a realistic and ‘immediate’ effect on your casino gaming. In fact, most live dealer games even allow you to tip your dealer or croupier. This is another great way to interact, as you can see the reaction of your dealer as you share in the joy of a successful bet.

Other great in-game features include the ability to adjust your bet size and chip size between rounds or deals, the ability to interact with other players at the table, the ability to adjust your camera angle and view of the table and sound level (or even mute), and much more. Being able to adjust the angle of view is a fantastic advantage, as it allows you to perfectly see the cards being dealt or the position the roulette ball lands on.

Most live dealer games also make use of oversized playing cards, which can really help players see what the value of each hand being dealt is. It also eliminates any potential issues with misunderstandings, cheating, and so on.

Currently, Betfair offers seven fantastic live dealer games, which include the standards, as well as a few interesting poker style card games. The following list clearly shows the live dealer casino games that are currently available under the live casino tab:

  • Live Roulette
  • Live Blackjack
  • Live Baccarat
  • Live Casino Hold’Em
  • Live HiLo
  • 3 Card Brag Live
  • Live Sic Bo

Additional Casino Gaming Options

In addition to the casino and live casino options I outlined above, Betfair also offers other unique and interesting gambling avenues. This includes a popular Macau casino, which features Asian-themed slots, jackpot games, and live dealer games. The live dealer games, which include baccarat, roulette, blackjack, and sic bo, are all streamed live from Playtech’s Asian live dealer studios. The Betfair Macau casino is perfect for anyone looking for something a little different.

Aside from their Macau casino option, Betfair also present a dedicated Vegas Slots page, featuring quality slots games with a uniquely Vegas style and theme to them. Fans of bingo will find a solid collection of top bingo rooms to choose from. The Betfair bingo page is one of the best on the web, and, along with the Betfair poker page, includes detailed timetables of current and up-and-coming games, tournaments, tutorials, and much more. A separate Betfair Arcade page contains even more games in all styles, including slots, jackpots, table and card games, promotions, mobile options, and more.

Banking Options

Betfair features an excellent selection of payment options to suit the majority of needs and preferences. This includes your standard Visa and MasterCard credit and debit card options, along with top eWallet options such as PayPal, Neteller, and Skrill. For those that prefer it, there are also direct bank transfer and cheque options for making safe and secure deposits.

All deposits made to your Betfair account are available immediately, making it convenient to get going on your favorite game or betting on a sporting event that is either about to start or in play. For making secure withdrawals, Betfair offers a fairly broad range of options, which include PayPal for select territories, Visa Electron, Skrill, direct bank transfer, and even cheque options.

Betfair is pretty quick and efficient with their processing, and most requests are processed within 24 hours. Additional delays will need to be included based on the chosen payment option, and can range from 24 hours to around five working days. In terms of online payment security, Betfair is among the top gambling brands when it comes to hassle-free payments. They use a highly sophisticated two-step verification process on every transaction to ensure that no unauthorized payments are ever made.

To bolster online security even further, Betfair employs advanced SSL (Secure Socket Layer) digital encryption on their servers. Digital encryption ensures that all data on Betfair servers remains encrypted at all times. This includes all uploaded data, such as your personal account details, banking and credit card details, funds deposited to your account, and, of course, any withdrawal transactions you decide to make. Popular payment options available at Betfair include the following broad cross-section, which may change based on your specific country:

Bonus Offers and Promotions

Not all online sportsbooks and casinos feature solid promotions and other incentives. So when I discovered that Betfair had quite a few decent-looking bonuses and promotions, I was quite excited. Unlike some online gambling sites where you only get one basic and boring offer, Betfair gives you the choice between three different welcome bonuses to suit your specific playing style or interests.

Betfair’s first welcome bonus option consists of a 100% deposit match up to the value of $100. All that you need to do to qualify for this offer is sign up with Betfair and make your first cash deposit of at least $10. This offer is applicable to all casino games at Betfair, so it’s a good all-rounder for players that may be unsure of what they want to play.

It is important to note, however, that the Betfair option one welcome bonus offer does come with certain specific wagering requirements. If you decide to take this offer, you will need to wager your bonus amount at least 45 times before you will be allowed to request a withdrawal of your winnings. The following games have been allocated a certain contribution percentage to your wagering requirements, making it quite easy to get through it quickly:

  • Slots (Excluding double options) = 100%
  • Arcade = 100%
  • Scratchcard Games = 100%
  • Fixed Odds Games = 100%
  • Roulette = 50%
  • Card Games = 50%
  • Sic Bo = 50%
  • Blackjack = 50%
  • Craps = 5%
  • Video Poker (All varieties) = 5%
  • Pontoon = 5%
  • Blackjack Switch = 5%
  • Red Dog = 5%
  • Spin A Win/Lucky Wheel = 5%
  • Casino War = 5%
  • Casino Hold’em = 5%
  • Wild Vikings = 5%
  • Stravaganza = 5%
  • Live casino games = 0%

The second welcome bonus option that is available at Betfair is aimed exclusively at online slots fans, and consists of a 200% deposit bonus up to $400. To qualify for this offer, simply sign up with Betfair and make your first deposit of at least $20 to get your 200% deposit match up to a maximum amount of $400.

This offer is exclusively for slots players, and once you have played out your bonus amount, you will receive 100 free spins in your account, allocated to you at 10 free spins per day over 10 days. The Betfair option two welcome bonus for slots players is also subject to certain specific wagering requirements, which is slightly less than their all-games bonus, at 35 times your bonus.

Finally, rounding up the trio of Betfair welcome bonus offers is a deposit bonus aimed exclusively at live dealer roulette players. This offer consists of a 50% welcome bonus up to the value of $200 to spend on live dealer roulette exclusively. To qualify for this offer, sign up with Betfair and make your first deposit for live casino gaming of at least $20.

You will then receive a 50% match on your deposit, and once you have played out your bonus amount, you will receive five Golden Chips, one a day over five days. This is essentially equivalent to a free straight-up bet worth up to $70 every day over five days. New members that take up the live dealer roulette welcome bonus offer will need to wager the amount of the bonus claimed forty 40 times on Live Roulette.

In addition to their series of thoughtful welcome bonuses, Betfair continues providing customer value through dedicated incentives for their poker, bingo, and sports betting customers. All Betfair members can also benefit from their VIP rewards program. Rewards and incentives that Betfair members can benefit from include enhanced bonus offers and rewards, invitations to exclusive events around the world, invitations to exclusive tournaments, personal account managers, and much more.

Customer Service

Betfair customer support is professional, prompt, and friendly, although I do have to say that the only negative point regarding their support is the lack of a live chat facility. However, it is possible to contact them via a chat contact form, which works in a similar way to a regular live chat feature.

Betfair is quick to respond to the majority of calls or queries, and their typical phone support response time is around thirty seconds, while email support response time is generally 24 – 48 hours. Betfair customer support is also available in a variety of languages, including:

  • Danish
  • English
  • German
  • Italian
  • Portuguese
  • Spanish
  • Swedish
  • Greek
  • Bulgarian
  • Russian

Email Support

  • support@betfair.com

Email support at Betfair is very good, and is an excellent way to get the help you need in written form. The Betfair email support system is essential for sorting out all of your account verification needs so that you can ensure that all of your future payouts go as smoothly as possible.

Betfair customer support team members are clearly very well trained and are able to deal with a wide variety of issues, queries, and requests. Typical turnaround time for emails is around 24 – 48 hours, which is better than many other online gambling sites on the web.

Live Chat Support

Betfair does not feature a regular live chat option, which is popular with most online casinos. However, when clicking on their support center and FAQ section, you can find a simple chat contact form, similar to a standard email contact form. This works in more or less the same way as regular live chat, but is a bit slower.

Phone Support

  • 0344 871 0000

Phone support at Betfair is excellent, and you can expect to get highly efficient and knowledgeable support at any time of the day or night. Generally speaking, most calls to the Betfair phone support exchange are answered within thirty seconds. Betfair offers phone betting, as well as support for their sportsbook and casino.

User Interface

Betfair’s user interface is quick and vibrant, offering a professional-level state-of-the-art betting and gambling platform. I found the user interface to be sophisticated enough for serious and professional sports bettors and casino gamblers, while being simple and intuitive enough not to intimidate novices.

Betfair members only require a single account in order to access all of Betfair’s online gambling features. This includes the Betfair sportsbook, virtual casino, live dealer casino, Macau casino, Vegas Slots, bingo platform, poker platform, and the Betfair mobile platform. The Betfair mobile platform offers the exact same user experience as their desktop user interface does, complete with secure banking, 24-hour customer support, full gaming, sports betting markets, and more.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a solid, reliable, and robust online gambling site with an excellent reputation, Betfair may just be what you are looking for. While this particular review does not actually extend to their online sportsbook, this is where they got their start, and it is one of the reasons why they enjoy such respect within the online sports betting community.

Their online casino side is well developed, and it is quite clear to see that their staff work very hard to ensure that every aspect of the Betfair platform is as good as any of their products. This can be seen in the sheer range of casino products that are available, which includes some of the best poker and bingo action on the net.

Thanks to their partnership with many of today’s leading online casino software providers, Betfair is able to provide an enormous range and depth, making them a force to be reckoned with in the online casino industry. Playtech provides the bulk of their casino games, which automatically ensures Betfair casino’s trustworthiness. This extends to all of their products, including their live dealer casinos (they offer Playtech’s European live dealer site, as well as Playtech’s Asian live dealer site), Macau casino, Vegas Slots, jackpots, video pokers, and much more.

I loved how Betfair looked on virtually any mobile device I tested it on, including a range of smartphones and tablets. The Betfair mobile platform works great on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and most Blackberry devices. You get the full range of services, including secure mobile banking and payment options, 24-hour customer support, virtually all of their sports and betting markets, casino games including live games, and much more.

Verdict

Betfair on the whole is a great choice for anyone looking for a solid all-rounder. You will be able to enjoy a bit of everything, from betting on all the latest top international sports, to playing the latest slots, progressive jackpots, and table games (including live versions).

Add to this a range of innovative and thoughtful bonus offers to suit all sorts of new players, and a comprehensive VIP rewards program, and you have a solid, award-winning online gambling platform that could become your go-to operator.

FAQ

As with most online casinos and sportsbooks, the legal age requirement to sign up with Betfair is 18. However, it may also be a good idea to consult with the Betfair customer services or check your local laws, since the age restriction may vary.

No. Betfair does not withhold any money owed to you (through winnings) in order to pay taxes. It is always assumed that you, as a player, are responsible for taking care of any taxes that may be applicable to your money that you withdraw from your Betfair account. Fortunately, Betfair makes this process as simple and convenient as possible. There are several available options for making quick withdrawals from your Betfair account, and these can be accessed from the Betfair cashier page.

Each available option includes a detailed explanation of how it works, how long you may have to wait for your payment to reflect, and so on. Simply click on your preferred option to initiate the payout procedure that works with that particular payment option. There are one or two other factors which you will need to consider before making your payout request. Firstly, you will need to have ensured that all of your necessary paperwork has been submitted to verify your account details and so forth.

Secondly, if you have taken a bonus with Betfair, you will need to be sure that you have met all of your wagering requirements satisfactorily before you will be allowed to put in a withdrawal request. You can find plenty of casino games to play, including slots, roulette, blackjack, video poker, and many other popular casino games. You can also enjoy top sports and betting markets, secure mobile banking, 24-hour customer support, exclusive mobile bonus offers, and much more.

Betfair NJ is home to hundreds of slots, table games, live dealer games, video poker and virtual sports and also boasts one of the largest welcome bonuses in New Jersey. Betfair Exchange also offers a unique form of horse racing betting that allows customers to back and lay horses in a free market environment.

As far as safety and security go, there are no concerns here. Betfair Online Casino has an active license from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and a long history in the gaming business even before coming to the US. Betfair is a legitimate gambling site by all measures.

Betfair Casino NJ Background Info

Betfair NJ originally launched in partnership with Trump Plaza AC, but was nearly forced out of the market after the Trump Plaza announced it would be going of business. New Jersey law requires all gambling sites to partner with one land-based casino, so impending doom for Trump Plaza also threatened Betfair Casino’s ability to operate.

After what was surely a scramble for Betfair NJ executives, they ultimately found a land-based partner in the Golden Nugget AC without any interruption in business. That partnership continues to this day with Betfair supplying the games, software and day-to-day management while the Golden Nugget supplies the necessary internet gaming permit.

The Betfair name is not particularly well-known in the United States, but that will likely change as online gaming continues its slow expansion across the US. Betfair US is just one division of the much larger gaming giant known internationally as Paddy Power Betfair.

Paddy Power Betfair is one of the largest online gaming companies in the world with more than 7,000 employees serving more than 5 million active customers who placed more than $15 billion in bets last year alone. Additionally, Paddy Power Betfair stock is a constituent of the FTSE 100 on the London Stock Exchange.

Here in the United States, Betfair US is active not only through BetfairCasino.com, but also as the owners behind horse racing betting network TVG. More recently, Betfair US closed a deal with FanDuel to combine their US-facing businesses, giving Betfair a majority ownership stake with options to acquire 100% of FanDuel at a later date.

Betfair also has agreements in place to operate sportsbooks at Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey and Tioga Downs in New York.

What this all means for prospective players is BetfairCasino.com is a safe place to play. The company behind this online casino is highly experienced, well-funded and has been approved by multiple gaming regulators around the world. For the remainder of our Betfair Casino review, we’ll focus on what it’s actually like to play here as a customer.

Betfair Online Sports Betting

At one point, it seemed inevitable that Betfair would become a major name in the US sports betting market. Flutter Entertainment is one of the largest and most experienced sports betting companies in the world with operations around the globe.

Flutter Entertainment has indeed aggressively targeted the US sports betting market, but under the FanDuel brand rather than through Betfair. If the Betfair name is to enter sports betting, it may be to offer exchange wagering as it does for horse racing in New Jersey.

Game Variety

Betfair Online is one of the bigger NJ casino sites in terms of sheer number of games on offer. In all, there are more than 350 games to choose from. Slots account for the majority of the game variety, with table games, live dealer games, video poker and virtual sports rounding out the rest.

The Betfair platform features games from more than a dozen software providers specializing in online and offline slots. This means players will find online-only games such as those provided by the popular NetEnt collection as well as real-world slots that have been ported over to the Betfair platform for online play.

Betfair Casino also features a large number of exclusive games that cannot be found anywhere else:

Between the large slots library, table games, video poker and virtual sports, Betfair is a well-rounded casino. The collection covers all the standard games you would expect to see at a casino as well as hundreds of slots and a fair number of exclusives to make Betfair Casino unique in the crowded New Jersey market.

Betfair Software and Mobile Apps

Betfair is no stranger to online gaming and the software shows it. Long before entering the New Jersey market, Betfair cut its teeth in the UK and European markets with an online betting exchange, online sportsbook and online casino. Not surprisingly, the software here looks polished and functions without issue.

From any desktop computer, customers can visit BetfairCasino.com to play online without downloading anything. The main casino lobby is organized by tabs enabling you to filter the games list by type such as by slots, table games, large jackpot games, live dealer games and virtual sports. Just select any tab and you’ll see the full list of games in that category.

The slots tab offers further filtering options allowing you to view slots that are exclusive to Betfair, slots with 1-10 pay lines, slots with 15-20 pay lines and slots with 25+ pay lines. These filter options are nice, but Betfair Casino has introduced so many slots that it’s getting to be time to introduce a search feature and possibly other filtering options such as the ability to view slots by software developer.

Betfair mobile is available for iOS and Android users alike. You can search for Betfair casino in your phone or tablet’s app store or just head to BetfairCasino.com where you’ll be directed to the app. In order to save space, the mobile app provides a pared-down collection of 150+ games including slots, table games and live dealer games.

Betfair Online Slots

Slots are a strong point at Betfair NJ with about 330 slots from numerous providers and of all different types. Here you’ll find slots from well-known providers such as NetEnt as well as real-world providers such as Konami that have made their games available online.

Other slots developers that provides games to Betfair include IGT, NYX, Amaya, SG Gaming, Incredible Technologies, GAN and Aristocrat. The wide variety in developers has resulted in a wide variety in the types of slots on offer. And even if you’ve seen it all before, the Betfair exclusive slots will be new to you.

A visit to the “jackpots” tab at the top of the casino lobby will take you to a small collection of games with large jackpots. At the time of this review, the largest slots jackpot exceeded $240,000.

Table Games and Video Poker

Betfair’s table games and video poker collection covers all the standard casino games and video poker variations plus a few Betfair exclusives. The collection overall has more variety in table games than most NJ casinos. A lack of options in table games has been a recurring theme in New Jersey for years, but Betfair thankfully offers a healthy variety.

Interestingly, the biggest online jackpot ever won by anyone in New Jersey happened at a Betfair table game. Back in 2015, one lucky player placed three individual $500 wagers on a game of Let It Ride. He was lucky enough to hit a Royal Flush, which paid 1,000:1 on each wager for a payout of $1,500,000 plus an extra $20,000 for his bonus bet. That jackpot stands as a New Jersey record to this day.

The full list of table games includes:

  • Roulette
  • 3 Wheel Roulette
  • European Roulette
  • American Roulette
  • Roulette Advanced
  • Roulette Master
  • Roulette Royale (Betfair exclusive)
  • Blackjack (2 variations)
  • Pro Blackjack
  • Blackjack Multi Hand
  • Double Bonus Spin Roulette
  • EZ Baccarat (Betfair exclusive)
  • Hi-Lo Solitaire (Betfair exclusive)
  • Let it Ride
  • Three Card Poker

The video poker options at Betfair Casino are a bit limited by comparison. There are just a handful of video poker games to choose from, but the most popular variants are all present. Here’s what they have for video poker:

  • Deuces Wild by GAN (Betfair exclusive)
  • Bonus Poker
  • Double Bonus Poker
  • Double Double Bonus Poker
  • Jacks or Better
  • Jacks or Better by Betfair (Betair exclusive)
  • Five Play Draw Poker Multi Hand
  • Triple Play Draw Poker Multi Hand

Betfair Live Dealer Games

Betfair’s live dealer games bring real casino action to your desktop or mobile device complete with real dealers and streaming HD video. Place your bets on the digital interface and then watch as an actual casino dealer plays out the game on a real casino table.

Rather than waiting for randomized results, you’ll watch in real time as the cards are dealt and the roulette ball comes to a stop. Additionally, the live dealer games are more social in nature as you’re able to chat and interact with the dealers and other players as you play.

The live dealer games run seven days a week from 2PM to 6 AM depending on the game and are streamed from a dedicated room at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City.

Games offered:

  • Live Dealer Blackjack
  • Live Dealer Roulette
  • Live Dealer Roulette
  • Live Dealer Holdem
  • Live Dealer Baccarat

Virtual Sports Betting

Virtual sports betting games run every two or three minutes and allow you to bet on the outcome of virtual sporting events. These games provide the sports betting experience, but at a much faster pace as the simulated games only last a few minutes before offering immediate payouts.

Although outcomes are randomized, Betfair virtual sports do mimic real sports with favorites, underdogs and a whole variety of betting options. For example, virtual horse racing accepts win, place and show wagers in addition to exactas and trifectas with some of those offering extremely high payouts.

Virtual sports offered include:

  • Horse Racing
  • Greyhound Racing
  • Stock Car Racing
  • Motor Racing
  • Motorcycle Racing
  • Soccer

Betfair State-by-State Operations

Betfair parent company Flutter Entertainment (formerly Paddy Power Betfair plc) has plans on the wider online gambling market extending beyond New Jersey, but it is unclear if further expansions will be launched under the Betfair name specifically.

In 2018, Flutter Entertainment reached a deal with FanDuel to merge their US-based businesses to create a new entity called Betfair US that will target the growing US market. The deal is clearly oriented to push the FanDuel brand in particular, which leaves the status of the Betfair brand in the United States up in the air.

It is entirely possible Betfair will bring its unique form of exchange betting to additional states, but FanDuel has all the momentum right now as an established daily fantasy provider with national name recognition.

Betfair has a path into Illinois under the FanDuel banner, but that path became a bit more complicated after lawmakers added a clause to the new sports betting law that prohibits FanDuel and DraftKings from applying for a license under their own names for the first 18 months.

The provision was designed as a punishment of sorts (or as a favor to local casinos depending on who you ask) for FanDuel and DraftKings running real money fantasy contests in IL even after the AG declared such contests to be illegal gambling.

FanDuel now has two options: wait for 18 months from the date of the law’s passage to apply for an online-only license or to launch betting under the name of its partner casino. In this case, the most likely partner is Pair-A-Dice Casino run by Boyd Gaming. FanDuel and Boyd reached an agreement in 2018 granting FanDuel access to states in which Boyd operates casinos.

Flutter Entertainment has carved out its spot in the Indiana betting market after FanDuel and Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City reached a deal for sports betting. Blue Chip Casino has received an Indiana sports betting license and should be able to launch a retail sportsbook in the near future. Online betting is expected to follow a short time later.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has approved Betfair Interactive as an authorized provider in Iowa for in-person and online betting. Additionally, Betfair Interactive is partnered with the two Diamond Jo casinos to manage their sports betting operations. This will most likely result in the launch of FanDuel rather than a site named Betfair.

Betfair US is active in Mississippi under the FanDuel brand with retail sportsbooks at two casinos operated by Boyd Gaming. IP Biloxi and Sam’s Town Tunica both feature retail sportsbooks operated by FanDuel.

Betfair Casino has been operational in New Jersey since 2013, well before the Betfair-FanDuel merger. The site remains active today but has still not launched sports betting despite that being one of Betfair’s core business models even before the company ever breached the US market.

As far as sports betting goes, Betfair parent company Flutter Entertainment has opted to push forward under the FanDuel banner. This has been a wise decision in retrospect as FanDuel was able to capitalize on its existing DFS userbase in NJ to promote actual sports betting. Now, FanDuel is the most profitable NJ betting site by a longshot.

Betfair US has a deal in place with Tioga Downs to operate a FanDuel-themed sportsbook and online betting if authorized by state law. New York law currently allows in-person betting only, but lawmakers have been pushing to legalize mobile betting as well.

In Pennsylvania, Betfair US has entered the market under the FanDuel brand in partnership with Valley Forge Casino Resort. A FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Force opened in March 2019 and was followed by the launch of FanDuel’s mobile app in PA.

Betfair has a presence in West Virginia through a partnership between FanDuel and the Casino Club at the at the Greenbrier. The sportsbook is now open for real money wagers and online betting should be coming soon as well.

The mac daddy of online betting. Good brand, good technology, great user base and some amazing offers.

Before we get started reviewing Betfair, there is one import thing to point out.

As far as we are concerned they are the default bookie offering pretty much everything one could need to satisfy their gambling needs (or wants).

With the exception of sports spread betting, for that you need to go to Spreadex or Sporting Index.

So what makes Betfair so great?

Firstly, they are the pioneers of disrupting the online gambling market by offering peer to peer betting rather than betting against the house.

This means that when you bet on Betfair you are betting against other gamblers who are laying bets. So it feels more like a sport than just chucking cash at a traditional bookie who wants you to lose.

Because of this you get better odds as individuals set the price.

So in outright bets you can win significantly more. If you’re interested to see how much more take a look at this video that new betting exchange Smarkets put up showing how much more you can win by using a betting exchange

How’s the competition for Betfair?

There are a few Betfair alternatives, and by this we mean the three other betting exchanges:

  • Smarkets
  • Matchbook
  • BetDaq

They offer more markets, better liquidity a bigger balance sheet, they are publicly listed on the LSE, you can see and trade their share price below:

We’ve put together a handy comparison table of the best betting exchanges in the UK here, so you can compare key features at a glace.

What else does Betfair they offer?

Betfair pretty much tick all boxes with market and game coverage and include Betfair branded versions of all these which can be accessed from funds in your main account:

  • Betting Exchange
  • Fixed odds betting
  • Bingo
  • Poker
  • Casino/Slots
  • Financial Spread betting

With a worldwide reputation, Betfair is one of the leaders in online gambling. Many will know the brand for its sportsbook but may be surprised to know it has an online casino with a library of 400+ quality gaming titles. We’ll be looking at Betfair Casino in full and assessing everything from its software providers and games, to its customer support and range of promotions. Read on for our full Betfair Casino review for 2020.

Betfair Casino was established in 2006, making it one of the first big online casinos from established UK betting brands. Being older does come with some advantages and the site maintains a modern design with great functionality and a simple style. The level of action provided by the many online slots, table games and live casino games really is exciting for new and veteran players alike.

For more betting options, the site will show the different tabs on the top. Various products Betfair are on offer and these include a massive sportsbook, a separate live casino, a poker room, more casino games, bingo and virtual sports.

Getting back to the Betfair Casino review at first sight, the promotions will start from the very first deposit made and the games quickly catch the attention of visitors; be it through their nice details for the themes or the jackpots behind some of the spinning reels. It is nice to see variety right from the start as the featured titles are not all video slots and there are tables and even live dealer options to show the popular ones among players.

Short lists for new games and jackpots are joined by the games with the biggest winnings and most spins.

Multiple languages are provided and the preferred one can be selected from the flag in the top right corner. Betfair is available in most European countries but it is restricted in markets where online gambling is not fully legalized and this includes the United States.

Software and Range of Games

Betfair Casino offer just over 400 unique game titles. The library has a lot to offer and includes a strong collection of around 130 slot games, a variety of table options, video poker machines and a live dealer section. We were also pleased to see that the majority of the games are provided by Playtech – one of the largest casino developers in the industry. For a full breakdown of the games at Betfair Casino, take a look at our list below:

  • Slots
  • Video Poker
  • Live Dealer
  • Blackjack
  • Baccarat
  • Bingo
  • Keno
  • Roulette
  • Craps
  • Scratchcards

Progressive Jackpots at Betfair

There are over 45 progressive slots from Playtech and they are featured at Betfair Casino with the Gladiator leading the charge as the one with the most action. The huge prizes can be worth up to a couple million in pounds and it only takes a small bet with a bit of luck to become the next big winner.

Playtech really likes its progressive jackpots and it offers entire collections that are on the same network. The best example is the popular series from the developer called Age of Gods. It follows mythical characters on the spinning reels in more than half a dozen slots with big jackpots up for grabs. The ultimate prize here seeds at $100,000 but can easily go over $500,000 before it is won. The largest Age of Gods jackpot so far got really close the $1 million mark.

Although massive, these jackpots don’t even come close to the really big progressives hosted on Betfair Casino. The one to keep an eye on is Jackpot Giant. This online slots game lives up to its name with prizes that easily reach $6 million. The jackpot is normally hit every year so a new millionaire can be just a few spins away.

Other slots in the Betfair app that can create millionaires are Monty Python's Spamalot, Beach Life, and Sweet Party. Each of these progressives has paid out jackpots of over $1 million on average in recent years.

Betfair Live Casino stands out for offering a couple extra options from the standard games. In addition to Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat, the category on the internet casino also has tables for Casino Hold'em and Sic Bo with live professional croupiers that make each round a lot more entertaining than the standard versions. Betting limits can be as little as a few cents and they go up to $10,000 for one spin at Live Roulette in order to give all users the options they want.

Everything is organized really well as players get to see some of the live streams before joining and there is even a live feed with the most recent results in the Roulette category. The range of tables found in the Betfair online casino review is really impressive as the operator makes sure to host its own tables with the help of professional dealers and real casino equipment.

HD video streaming makes sure that players can see everything clearly, while the virtual interface makes betting a breeze. Users can join the tables they like and place bets as they would in a regular online casino game. The croupier will then spin the wheel or deal the cards, with the results being instantly transmitted to the casino. All of the pays are done automatically and seated users can also talk with the dealers for a more interactive experience.

Players might already know Betfair for its reputation as one of the leaders in the sports betting industry. The sportsbook has over 30 sports to bet on at any one time, with plenty of bet types and markets on the most popular games and competitions. We found the sports section was quick and easy to use and took no more than three clicks to place a bet.

In particular, we were especially impressed with Betfair’s mobile live streaming services. On average, Betfair stream over 3,500 sport events each year – a huge number. To accompany this, the sportsbook has plenty of in-play betting markets which can be accessed on desktop as well as on mobile. There’s even helpful match statistics and player scorecards to help with the decision making.

The Betfair review 2020 would not be complete without mentioning the online poker room hosted by the operator. With software from Playtech, Betfair Poker is one of the best options for recreational players who just want to enjoy the game and win some nice pots in the process. In order to get started, users must first download the Betfair Poker app from the website and then install it on a computer. Registered customers can use the same accounts and just transfer money from the balance to the card room.

As a new player, you can get a welcome package that is made out of a 200% bonus up to $1,000, a $5 Twister entry, $10 in tournament tokens, $10 in playable slots bonus money, and access to Betfair Poker exclusive welcome missions. The promotions will continue after that with monthly races and special offers. Active users also benefit from the rewards generated by the Player's Club since points are offered for every $1 paid in cash game rake or tournament fees. More points will mean more rewards so it is a good idea to get that Betfair Poker download started as quickly as possible.

The Betfair poker review found the card room to be on the iPoker Network powered by Playtech so traffic will not a problem. This means that players can easily find open cash game tables at any hour, day or night, for no limit Texas Hold'em. The most popular stakes are fairly low since the competition is very soft. Other variants covered include Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo. A fun way to play poker online is to join a fast-fold game, known as Speed Poker on the network. The pace here is much faster than in a regular cash game since you can fold and almost instantly get a new hand to play at another table.

Betfair poker Android and iOS apps make sure that users can access the real money tables whenever they want, no matter where they are. The mobile poker room has a sleek interface and it will connect users to the same player pool. Points for the VIP program will still be earned when betting from a smartphone or tablet device.

Betfair App & Mobile Options

Mobile is not just the future of gambling but it already seems to be the present as just about every reliable casino is looking into it. Staying always connected can mean more chances to win since it only takes a few seconds to get started with your favorite game. Betfair Mobile Casino has a great platform for betting on the move and it provides a few ways to enjoy the products.

First off, there are five mobile apps which can be downloaded for Betfair gambling options, such as live casino, poker and arcade. As for the Casino, this too has downloadable apps for iOS and Android which can be found in the respective mobile stores from the developers.

Players who don’t want to install more apps on their smartphones can just opt for the Instant Play version by visiting the website. Entering the Betfair Casino address on a mobile browser will automatically switch it to the appropriate format.

Available games (50+) cover all the categories of the standard online casino but with fewer options since not all of them are compatible on mobile devices. The casino even has exclusive promotions for active mobile clients and it is possible to have notifications turned on to get alerts when new offers become available to jump on them straight away. Free money combined with the freedom of betting from any location make for a fun experience at any time.

The design is a lot more colorful while keeping the layout clean and the controls can be a bit different than they are on the desktop version of the games. Compatibility is not limited to iOS and Android for the no-download mobile casino so user with Blackberry or Windows Phones can join as well.

Security is always a top priority when playing at Betfair and the team is constantly looking for ways to make sure that the system is up-to-date on the latest security technology. A good example of this is the 2-Step Authentication that greatly reduces the risk of someone else using your account. This is because the operator sends a one-time code by SMS on your phone when the username and password is entered and it has to be used to complete the verification process. The password is only available for 30 seconds.

The website and its related services have been certified by independent companies which specialize in online security. Encryption protocols are in place to keep stored data safe and prevent any third parties from getting sensitive information when registering and when making payments.

HydrantID verifies the connection, which is secure at all times at Betfair.

And if all of this wasn’t enough, we also have the guarantees that come with the key licenses which the casino has at this time. These are from the Malta Gaming Authority and from the UK Gambling Commission, with the details being displayed on the main page.

On the subject of game fairness, the fact that Playtech provides the content should put every worry to rest. The developer has all the required certifications for its creations and the decades of experience show that everything is fair at all times.

Banking has several top choices for depositing and withdrawing funds. The list is just long enough to cover web wallets, credit cards, debit cards, bank transfers and prepaid cards with popular options but it doesn’t go much further than that. The withdrawal limits are huge so winning big will not come with any issues when cashing out.

Betfair Bonuses, Promotions & Support

Welcome Bonus

Betfair offer a welcome bonus of 100% up to $100, which is available across their range of table games and slots after a minimum bet of $10 (excluding e-wallets). The bonus is excellent for those who enjoy table games and for users who don’t plan on depositing more than $100 anyway. It has few restrictions and comes with a 45x wagering requirement for the bonus amount only. Slots and other games will contribute 100% with the bets placed, and most table games will have a 50% contribution.

Other offers available include up to $400 in bonus money for live dealer games, which is split across three bonuses of 100% up to $100, 50% up to $100 and 50% up to $300 (again, e-wallet deposits excluded). Roulette fans can also get 30 free chips, split over 3 days, to boost their options online.

Loyalty Rewards and Customer Support

The VIP Club at Betfair Casino was designed for the biggest spenders to generate fitting rewards. There are three levels for Gold, Platinum and Diamond and while each offers the five-star treatment, the benefits get better from one to the next. Exclusive benefits and giant rewards are promised, as are higher limits, gifts, an account manager and more.

The prestigious club also hosts real events where VIPs are invited to join for a time to remember; all in complete luxury of course.

Several help topics are covered through answered questions and can really be useful, especially for newer customers. Those who prefer to talk to the customer support team can easily call the listed number and one of the members will assist with any issue. The two other contact methods are email and live chat.

Conclusion

Betfair Casino is a massive operator with a legacy spanning 20 years’ – and it really shows. The range of games within the casino’s library is varied with big name jackpot slots alongside new releases, all of which are powered by top casino operators. On top of that, Betfair have impeccable security measures in place and impressive 24/7 customer support. All in all, we think Betfair Casino is a top gaming site – we’re excited to see what the online casino does next.
